I would estimate that a re-design for two trains on Nighthawk would range from 2 million to 4 million for both trains. But It would be worth it to increase capacity and comfort and to decrease load/unload times.

Or they could just fix the trains to do what they were supposed to do and recline on the lift...

B&M Flyer! Heck rebuild the sternwheeler, both are better than Nighthawk!

I've never really understood why Nighthawk is so disliked. From all the times I've ridden it, I've never really experienced much roughness at all - sure, the transitions could be a bit smoother, but that's a relatively minor complaint. Is it just because the experience is a bit disorienting? Because that's what makes it fun for me.

I also don't really mind the lift hill ( :!: ). I think it provides a nice opportunity for me to close my eyes and soak in the sun before flipping over and plunging 100 feet. :p

^ ^^ likewise. it being 1 of 3 vekoma flyers, i say keep it. why not. compared to its firehawk cousin, ours at least looks better and soars over nice landscaping.

For me, it was a really long wait for a mediocre ride. I have ridden it three times and it just never stood out as a "must do" ride.

I just think the space could be better used for something that could handle more people.

I actually really like Nighthawk, and other than the capacity problem don't get the hate.

The only thing that I think would fit that spot better is a launched B&M flyer... that would be AMAZING!!!!

I really love being put in a rubber pouch and shook to death. I feel like I'm at the end of one of these shakeweights when I ride these awful Flying Dutchmen rides.

Other than the capacity and maintenance issues, Nighthawk isn't a fun ride. When I'm at the park with friends we'll say "lets go ride Top Gun/Goldrusher/Cyclone/Hurler/Scooby Doo/Thunder Road."

The words "Let's go ride Nighthawk" are NEVER uttered. It's never even a thought. No one enjoys it. Nighthawk is big and yellow and pretty. But it's not fun. Even Vortex (if it's line is short enough) will garner a ride from us.

Selfishly, I would like a ride that I actually enjoy riding. Crazy I know. I've been on Nighthawk ONE TIME in six years. And that was only due to being with a friend that didn't have the credit combined with a surprisingly short line. I immediately regretted it afterward. Being "unique" doesn't automatically make a coaster worth saving.

Send Carolina Cobra to Michigan's Adventure while you're at it.

Wait, what is this thread about?

I agree, Nighthawk is just terrible. It needs more flying track and less laying track. Cobra is in my top 5!

Also, I'm not a flying coaster hater. I really loved Air at Alton Towers and Manta at Sea World. The 3 Supermen always get a token ride from me, regardless of the wait, whenever I'm at SFoG/GAm/GAd. Big fan of the Pretzel Loop. Nighthawk has no redeeming qualities.

Well that just means you need to get out more.

If Carowinds truly wants to become a "Cedar Point" quality park it can't have these off-the-shelf Vekoma rides for smaller parks. You would never catch a Boomerang at Cedar Point, so why give one to Carowinds? It's such great publicity when the ride vallies so much you have to have a permanent crane set up next to it. That land could be used so much better for one of the precious flat rides everyone around here begs for.

I'm feeling ranty today. What's next?

I think I've said this before, but the biggest problem for me with Nighthawk is the space it occupies. It's right there at the entrance plaza into the park. Hardly a showpiece ride. If the park ever redoes the area after the bridge like they plan (and it could definitely use a refresh), it would be a great time to rip that ride out and put something in there that is truly worthy of being a centerpiece.

I don't actually think this would happen, but I wish it. These posts probably belong in the wishlist thread instead of here.
