General Carowinds discussion

From an asthetic perspective I really think Intamin style drop towers (or anything similar looking e.g. Windseeker) really clash with the skytower. So if Drop Zone were to be replaced I would hope for it to be with an S&S. However, I really doubt this will happen. All of our "towers" are working fine for now. Maybe something can be done when all of the Windseekers start kicking the bucket (not an oaken one though).

Drop Zone may not be the tallest but it still packs a punch for the best freefall drop experience to along with then Pitfall that was at Kennywood about 100 and some change taller. All the gyro drops and drop towers that hold like 50 ppl at a time seems controlled to me, not giving that freefall sensation. All drop zone need is a good sprucing up with fresh paint and maybe LED lighting for night time.

I hope they added more info to the park history spiel on skytower. I think it ended at Intmidator the last time I rode it.

Skytower is one of the few activities for people who don't ride coasters. I have friends who only ride Skytower and the carousel, they are very disappointed Skytower has been broken for so long.

I agree 100% with each and every thing you posted.

I do as well. The older smaller Intamins like Drop Zone still pack some of the biggest punches. Actually, the best freefall towers to me are probably the cheaper semi-portable ones that you see at places like Morey's Piers, Knoebels, etc. Those things fall like a rock. The big gyro towers just create too much wind resistance I think.

Now the new Great Adventure drop ride attached to Kingda Ka on the other hand... That thing is insane.

I like the Intamin drop towers. However, the Larson drop towers (Morey's, Knoebel's, Kentucky Kingdom) are the best ones out there.

Falcon's Fury was insane, but I'd like to ride Zumanjaro one day. It looks crazy.

I would personally love to see Skytower repainted. All they would need to do is stand on top of the cabin and paint from the top down. Also bring back the awning over the queue. I miss being able to see the park from up high without having to drop or fall like on drop zone or Fury for instance. I can't wait for it to reopen. :)

and replace it with a clone of the $5M Falcon's Fury at BGT... (it DOES have Fury in the name, and at 335' it would even have a better view...)

I don't think there is enough open space near the Skytower to demolish with an implosion similar to Cedar Point. Its fall would likely damage some other rides or building structures. And I had forgot that Space Spiral was apparently double decker. I wonder if they both had the same manufacturer.
