Opryland was actually performing a lot better than Carowinds (By 524,000 visitors) when Gaylord Entertainment decided to close the park for the land it was on.

I really hope you were joking... ;)

Uh... let's see

Rebel Yell, at PKD (clone of Thunder Road)
The Racer at PKI (90% clone of Thunder Road)...

And as far as not being a world class park. So what...

We must have something interesting, or the Discovery Channel would not have filmed their rollercoaster challenge on Top Gun this year.

It's an average park. I've seen worse, I've seen better.

It's hard to objective when I've been to one of the nicest parks on the planet (Busch Gardens Williamsburg). But Carowinds is pretty much like most theme parks these days.

And Borg and Top Gun took them a long way towards being a thrill ride park.

I love old classic rides, but I wish Carowinds would get something really new and unique, not just a roller coaster that another park was willing to get rid of.  After Borg, I don't know if we'll get a new coaster next season.

Anyway, I hope everyone caught the show on the Travel Channel tonight.

Maybe I shouldn't have watched it because now I feel deprived. Hopefully I can travel around and ride all the cool rides on the Travel Channel shows someday.
Yes, I've made the decision. When my son gets older, My daughter and I are going to join ACE.

My crazy daughter wanted to ride this thing called the "skyscraper". I prefer my rides on a track please.

They have Skyscrapers in Pigeon Forges on the main strip. They look so much fun. I thibk that I saw that show that you where talking about. The title had thrills in it and it had two shows with the same name, one mainly about rollercoasters and the other one had a double skyscraper in it. We may not be the most high tech and advanced park, but we definatly have some firsts in the industry such as White Lightnin'. It was a first I think (or at least the way it was lauched was.) FSS was the first rollercoaster that was interactive with water. The Cyclone was the first coaster to turn riders upside down four times. Blackbeards revenge was the first of its kind in North America. Top Gun was the first inverted coaster in the Carolinas. Borg was the first flying coaster in the Carolinas. And I think that Drop Zone was the first at any Paramount park. Goldrusher was the first coaster to go through two states. Carowinds is probaly the first and only park to be in two states. We are really a unique park in that we have helped the industry advance so much. Look at Dollywood, they have the worlds only mountain top, tunnel drop, 70 mph, triple loop rollercoaster. It was also the first spiroloopig coaster. And look at Thunderhead. The first fly through station. You don't have to be a very advanced and big park to have good rides and record breaking rides, and firsts. Whoah, that was alot, but oh well!

Actually Lake Winnie is in Georgia and Tenn. So we're one of two parks in two states ;)

Yes we all know that Carowinds was literally the first in certain unique categories (2 state park, first 4 looper, blah, blah, blah), but puleez stop with the generalizations!

All this "first in the Carolinas" and "first in the Paramount chain" are simply feeble ways to enhance the parks status in a mockery fashion. In fact, it's almost an embarassment when our park has to market it's new attraction as "first in the Carolinas". There are 48 more states ya know!

You don't hear the other Paramount parks advertising their latest thrill rides as the "first in Ohio" or the "first in Virginia". No, they are advertising their attractions as "first in the world" (Hypersonic & Stealth come to mind), or "highest in the North America" (PKD Drop Zone) and a few others come to mind. These ain't no Super Saturators either! These are major thrill rides that bring in the hardcore thrill seekers from all over the world.

We will always be a regional park until they market outside this region. And if this is how the park plans to continue its marketing, we will never have a world class coaster. I want Carowinds to be the FIRST park in North America to receive a NEW MAJOR THRILL RIDE!

I think this is the entire point that Coastermom was driving at. Why do all the other parks get these one-of-a-kind, highest, longest & fastest MAJOR thrill rides? I think it's our turn now. ;)

I know what you mean. I want carowinds to be lik SFMM Six Flags Magic Mountain. With "X". Witch is a multi-demension coaster. But I want carowinds to have something revolutionary. Like Bigggest, Tallest coaster in the world or a new type of coaster invented.

Not to go into a ton of details on who had what first, as we all know that most of what Carowinds has to offer was a first.

After coming back from the attractions around Orlando the number one thing I see us missing is the amount of themeing. Mainly speaking of the qeue lines that are themed to the ride and give it the extra touch.

Correct me if im wrong, and im sure you will..........., but wasn't the first major thrill ride in North America made like alot of years ago..........

So I dont think carowinds is gonna be able to boast that title.
