General Carowinds discussion

I hate this negative press for the park because I know these people worked very hard to provide us with a world-class coaster. I have to wonder if the online comments are from people that were not going to go to the park anyway? Either way, I will continue going every chance I get!

I feel it is my duty to ride all the rides and enjoy Carowinds as much as possible so I can continue to share the news about the park being safe.

You can't stop the bad news from showing up....that is what news is all about now. The opinions of the GP and their videos and pics they take with their phones. The days of reporters doing actual reporting and investigating are over. You read the news stories online and it looks like stuff written in school newspapers. Yeah....l'm bashing the news people because they have let the industry become something that is based on ratings and having the most exciting story. Fill the spots with junk even if half of it is unfounded. Put in the word alleged or possibly and you are free of blame. It is no different than all the news stations reporting about the horrible snows and storms that are coming and getting people whipped up into a frenzy and then nothing. Make it exciting, make it eye catching and make it "news worthy".

I continue to post positive things on my Facebook, Twitter, etc and share with my friends so they stay in the loop of what is true. I talk positive about the park and the rides so people hear it from someone they know and not the TV or their phone.

This is why the park has to step out in front and control the news. With social media, the days are over where you can let a story die a peaceful death. If they do nothing, every stoppage will be reported this summer and the media will keep a running count, which will allow the story to grow bigger and bigger. They got to get reporter into the park and take them behind the scenes in order to squash this nonsense. The way thing stand now, they have a reporter on duty waiting for the next report, picture to come in. "Yet another coaster has gotten stuck at Carowinds. That makes 4 this season."

I think social media is one big reason why a lot of news outlets have apparently cut way back in doing their due diligence and providing good journalistic reporting. They are afraid social media will beat them to the story so they just run it.

...and that's why I stopped watching any local news outlets many years ago. I couldn't give you the name of a single Charlotte broadcaster. I get my news through reliable sources on the Internet.

Speaking of reliable and Internet, I also stopped following Scream Scape on all outlets back when he released the Fury logo and haven't been to the site since then. The only time I hear reports from him is when someone posts it on here.

At least the Observer actually remembered what journalism is, and published something more substantial yesterday. Although the word "paramount" is a little awkward

http://www.charlotteobserver.com/news/b ... 63595.html

The park said that in all three cases, no riders were injured, and the rides stopped because sensors detected a glitch. Depending on which state a ride’s entrance and exit are located in, inspectors from either state perform annual inspections of the rides and can also perform unannounced inspections during the operating season.

Laresa Thompson, the park’s public relations manager, called the safety of guests and and employees “paramount” to Carowinds.

“Our rides have a sophisticated, computerized system that can cause ride stoppages as a precautionary measure. We realize at times this can be an inconvenience to our park patrons, but what’s important to remember is these rides perform as they are designed to do,” Thompson said in an email to the Observer.

Following the disruptions on the Windseeker and Flying Ace Aerial Chase, both in South Carolina, an inspector from the state’s Department of Labor, Licensing and Regulation reinspected each, and both rides passed inspection, department spokeswoman Lesia Kudelka wrote in an email to the Observer.

Following the incident on Fury 325, which is in North Carolina, the state Labor Department’s Elevator and Amusement Device Bureau didn’t send an inspector. Neil O’Briant, the department’s spokesman, said Carowinds reports incidents even when it’s not required to.

“In this case, it didn’t meet the threshold for reporting requirements under the law,” O’Briant said. “Our understanding is that they replaced the part, tested the coaster and had it back in operation.”

Unlike whoever came up with these graphics. I hate to even give it clicks, but it deserves to be shamed.

I think one day we should all get a bunch of people to take a picture, or multiple pictures for that matter of Fury in its safe and normal condition. After we take them, we flood the news stations with those pictures and saying "Fury 325 running normally, as it usually does. Every. Single. Day." and end it with that.

I feel TOTALLY safe on any Carowinds ride or any any cedar fair park - I won't ride traveling carnival rides though! I wonder if the bad publicity is merely because this is a huge world record breaking attraction, whereas at Dollywood, nothing is that big so if something happened on Mystery Mine or the drop, you won't hear about it.....

But there was that incident with xcelrator at knotts where the cable snapped..But things like that are so freaking RARE! I mean, there are car accidents, but people don't stop driving.

After the Fury "incident", on one of the news stations Facebook pages, one person stated that she was in the park and witnessed everything, and the new station asked if they could contact her.

Is it bad that I am hoping to get "stuck" on one of these rides so that I can contact the news afterward, and tell them that I was perfectly safe the whole time, and I'm glad the ride worked as it should, in order to keep everyone safe? And perhaps recount all of the times I've been "stuck" on, and even evacuated from, rides at Disney??

^ I don't think that's "newsworthy". You'd get cut out and replaced with some terrified, uninformed rider.

I don't get why people are scared about coasters getting "stuck." What do they think happens? The track falls off? The train explodes? I just don't get why people fear getting stopped on a ride.
