General Carowinds discussion

Your timing is impeccable, I was sitting at my desk working diligently when I received a text from a friend who is a news editor for WBTV. She sent a text with a pic attached that said "Fury is stuck again. Ride was stuck earlier at the start oft he incline of Fury." I quickly replied and said are you at the park? Of course she replied "No people are submitting pictures to our twitter, email mailbox, etc." I asked if this will be on the news later, she jokingly replied, "most likely." This is getting out of hand. I made a suggestion that instead of the negative press coming out of these outlets, why not be a frontrunner to interview some people who have the "real" answers, or a true coaster professional/engineer who can shed light on the safety and purposely engineered features such as a ride stop or even train evacuation. I made it a point to state that yes they have to report the news of the area, but negative news about the home park is hurting more than just Carowinds. Carowinds is a large proponent of the area tourism, jobs, and much more. Just my two cents.

Fury stopped again around 7:00 and they ran a few empty trains afterward.

I'm not interested in promoting any sort of rumor about a lack of safety at the park. However, I spent most of the day at Carowinds and was a part of 3 ride malfunctions. Unfortunately these malfunctions become the memorable parts of the day. Rather than talking about how many times we rode Hurler, my family keeps talking about being stopped on the lift hill. The time I lost waiting for Nighthawk to be repaired was frustrating. These issues had a negative impact on my Carowinds experience today. A negative guest experience, if it occurs often, might be newsworthy.

I too was in Furys line when it happened.. I had to explain what was going on to the nice lady who started freaking out about it... Low and behold 5 minutes later it started back up. I saw Mike tonight and didn't have an opportunity to talk to him. He appeared to be busy.
The media negativity is getting out of hand. I'm all for short lines, but of the 4 rides I got today, the lines were no more than 20 mins. The park was busy and Fury was not. They've (media) done their damage and now we all must do the best we can to promote things positively. This is only going to get worse folks....

On a lighter note. If we ever get a launcher, imagine the crap storm the news will have when it has its first rollback. They can't even handle a safety stop!! HAHAHA!!

I think all of the Fury "getting stuck" nonsense will blow over. Put it in perspective:
1) We aren't even full swing into the season yet. The ride operators are just figuring things out. and getting into a groove.
2) For the stops that take a longer time to resolve, this too may be for inexperience. I wonder if they had to call tech support. Maybe they are a little nervous about overriding sensor stops because they are too nervous about operating this monster. *shrugs* again just guessing
3) I have been to Cedar Point 2 times since Millenium Force was installed. It was stopped several times each time I was there. And From my understanding that happens alot. But they survived. The Media didn't kill the park or anything like that. And I think I heard top Thrill Dragster still rolls back once in a while. (Although I think I would love to ride on a fallback at least once)
I think this tie next year, The ride will be declared an undisputed hit. And the sexiness of a "malfunctioning tower of fear" will have blown over.

Question..... why is Tower of Terror at Dreamworld not the world's tallest and fastest giga coaster? Does it not technically count for being launched? Is it because it's not full circuit?

So, I went to the park today for TOTC. I usually avoid parks at all cost on the weekends, but had to see what it was all about. Luckily, the rain and chilly temps worked out in my favor and the park was pretty dead while I was there.

Went to Fury first for season pass early ride time and was able to get 2 rides without having to get up (back seat). I was very surprised to find that the rain didn't hurt too terribly bad, although it hurt more on the 2nd half of the ride. For a slight mist I was soaked after one ride.

Intimidator was a walk on as well and I was able to get 2 rides back to back on that. The rain died off not long after the park opened but it did remain pretty dead. The longest I waited for anything was 10 minutes for Fury before I left around 1p. I swear I love Fury the more I ride it.

Onto TOTC everything I tried was pretty delicious. My only gripe was the pulled pork spring rolls and the boiled peanuts on the ice cream. The spring rolls didn't have very much meat in them which was disappointing, but they were still good. The vanilla coke boiled peanuts on vanilla ice cream was good and you could taste the vanilla coke, but the peanuts were very hard for them to be boiled peanuts. The peaches and cream funnel cake is AMAZING!!

All in all I was very pleased with my trip today. Customer service was wonderful. Whenever I passed an employee they always spoke to us and would ask how our day went. Everyone working in the booths were awesome as well as the ride ops. Had a nice conversation with the guy working the right side of the Fury train this morning.

Hope you guys enjoyed my little TR. :D

I thought it had its own category.. the reverse free fall coaster. Maybe I'm wrong.
