I'll be there EARLY to try and get some FURY in before my daughter's school performance in the Palladium at 11:30. (Then home to avoid the weekend crowds.)

I've been watching Fury and it seems that they have either done some re-programming or are re-training the operators to work the ride differently. In the past, the "station train" would wait until the ride was past the turnaround to move out. (I remember waiting in the station long after the restraints had been checked.) By the time the train was out of the station and the second train got moving out of it's block into the station, the train on the course had reached the brake run and would stop. The train on the lift can't crest the hill until that train moves off the brake run. It takes a few seconds for the train on the brake run to get some momentum and clear once it's released.

Today, the station train is moving out to the transfer track before the train on the course gets to the turn around. This allows the train waiting on the station to begin moving in. Once the train on course clears the turnaround, the train on the transfer track begins its climb. Since the track is now clear all the way around to the entrance of the station, the train on course can breeze through and not stop on the initial brake run and stop just outside the station. This allows the brake run to be cleared much faster and less chance the lift has to stop to wait on it becoming clear.

At least that's MY personal observation. It may be wrong... but it makes sense.

Yes WBTV more responsibly reports the news and doesn't overhype like WSOC. They were able to more accurately represent the facts rather than contribute to negative publicity and create panic. And Maureen O'Boyle is a very good anchor/reporter who I remember from some national shows some years ago. I was glad to see this report present Carowinds' side of the story and reduce fears that Fury is unsafe.

It was a good piece, although my first response to the headline “Inspectors: Carowinds' Fury 325 is safe to ride”, was.. well, duh! There has been a noticeable turning of the tide this week though, shifting from folks with uniformed knee-jerk reactions incited by irresponsible press to defenders and the newly educated alike tired of the sensationalism. Luckily, other local TV and print hold themselves to a higher standard, like the one shared above.

BTW, Jonathan’s post has received A LOT of attention; including the page of one (according to their latest job posting) “hard news station with a strong investigative brand” :lolno:  . Hopefully they’ve moved on.

Ummm. Really? I'm guessing they have to put that for insurance reasons but....... REALLY?

I guess that leaves the door open for strapped in infants and non-service animals to ride
