IT DOESNT MATTER that you feel safer with seat belts. Redundant safety features are there for insurance purposes. Not to make you safer.

That's nonsense logic there, friend. I'm sure a shoulder harness would make you safer, but they're not required by law. Neither are helmets and neck-braces, which would certainly make you safer from injury if not death. The law doesn't require that you're completely wrapped in cotton wool, but that doesn't mean the addition of seat belts is utterly useless and would do nothing in the case of failure. What are you saying, that a seatbelt would shred like paper if the bar actually failed* and you fell out? 'Cuz I'm pretty sure it'd still do something.

The point I made was exactly about how I feel. You're saying what I said about myself. I very clearly said exactly that.

*I know I know, it's completely impossible for a lap bar to fail! It's utterly, utterly impossible! Man-made engineering never ever ever fails!! Seat belts are useless and silly, but lap-bars are magic, I get it already.

Totally right. I like wearing a seatbelt in a car, after all, so if it crashes I don't die. I guess cars aren't for me either.

You are taking this a bit too serious. This thread was almost a year old. Also, comparing a car to a coaster train is ridiculous. How many cars crash every day? How may coaster lap bars fail every day. See what I mean? Apples and oranges.

Some of the rides went decades with no accidents and no seat belts. Just like the height restrictions are affected by the insurance companies.

Are far as riding in a car, if it came as a standard feature I would wear a lapbar/shoulder harness instead of a seatbelt.

In NC, helmets are required.....on bicycles and motorcycles.

I admitted right off that my perception was the main thing, while everyone else is in a very serious tone going on against seatbelts like seatbelts on coasters literally ruined their lives.

I'd hate to say it but, if Intimidator's or Fury's lap bars failed, you would fall out. The seat belts on those rides are very loose and you can't make them tighter. They're just there. They're not really necessary on B&M's. Now, Intamin rides such as Millennium Force and Top Thrill Dragster are different. The seat belts are there for a secondary restraint. They have adjustable straps to make the seat belts tighter, this way that if the lap bars were to fail, which is much more common on an Intamin, you would still have a chance. But we shouldn't let that stop us! Ride on!

I don't know exactly how the seat belts on a coaster function, but here's my theory. If and I say IF the lap bar were to ever fail, maybe the seat belt locks into its current position? With that, it's possible that you may not fall out.
But then again, maybe it's just there for aesthetic reasons. I don't know. But I'll stick with my current idea (which seams pretty logical really. Just like the child safety lock in the seat belt of a car so to speak).
Either way. I for one do not think that seat belts are a hindrance. They don't take but a couple of seconds to fasten.
Anyway, back to the usually scheduled talk.

I understand how someone might not want seat belts because they can be uncomfortable, but on the other hand, some people might want a seat belt so they can feel more safe. I'm not trying to act like a mod here, but this whole argument is kinda stupid. Intimidator got seat belts added, and they are going to stay there no matter how much someone hates them because of insurance reasons. You have heard the news lately about how "unsafe" Fury is because it just has a lap bar and a seat belt. Just imagine how the media would react if it didn't even have the seat belts.

The seatbelts on Hurler, Thunder Road, Goldrusher and OddCoaster work just like a car, if they are pulled on too fast, they lock.
