That's nonsense logic there, friend. I'm sure a shoulder harness would make you safer, but they're not
required by law. Neither are helmets and neck-braces, which would certainly make you safer from injury if not death. The law doesn't require that you're completely wrapped in cotton wool, but that doesn't mean the addition of seat belts is utterly useless and would do nothing in the case of failure. What are you saying, that a seatbelt would shred like paper if the bar actually failed* and you fell out? 'Cuz I'm pretty sure it'd still do something.

*I know I know, it's completely impossible for a lap bar to fail! It's utterly, utterly impossible! Man-made engineering never ever ever fails!! Seat belts are useless and silly, but lap-bars are magic, I get it already.
