I'm going to go buy this before they close at 6. It's it pretty 'meh' condition but it's 4 feet by 3 feet and only $5.

EDIT: I just got back. The frame by itself is easily worth $20. Now that I have it and can compare it with satellite pictures of the Park, I can confirm that you are right Roller.

One of my front tires was low and I filled it up today, only to find a small nail imbedded in it. I dunno how long it's been there, but I'm sure it's causing a (seems to be slow) leak, and I don't like it. Not one bit.

Since I can't afford a mechanic or a new tire, my intent was to get a plug-kit from Walmart and plug it myself. However, in doing a bit of research for that, I've ended up watching scary warning videos on why you shouldn't do that, because without fixing the interior damage your tire will eventually become wildly warped and unhinged, ending with its exploding, and when it does you will crash into a nuclear reactor, KILLING EVERYONE ON THE PLANET.

Of course I tend to think that the danger is over-emphasized, and it's probably completely fine to just plug the sucker and keep going, but what do you guys think... solution, not a solution? (It's not in a tread and it's on the shoulder, if that helps.) Do any of you have advice or anecdotes? I'll hear 'em all, ranging from "I plugged a tire just once and ended up killing ten children!" or "I run over nails every day and have thirty plugs in each tire and they're completely fine!"

How much would a mechanic cost to fix something like this, anyhow?

If it is on the sidewall, it may not be able to be repaired. I would take it somewhere and at least get it looked at by a mechanic. When you get an estimate (if it can be repaired), then you can decide if you want to repair it or not.

This definetly can be merged with the 'off topic' thread, but what do I know. As for your question, as others have said, DO NOT do it if it's on the sidewall! Otherwise, go for it. I've done it a bunch and haven't had any issues.

It's even cheaper to go to Discount Tire. If the tread is still within the limits, they will patch your tire from the inside for free (they don't use plugs). No strings attached. I've used them a few times to fix flat tires.

Currently in San Antonio after a long day of flights getting delayed. Going to Sea world for the morning followed by Fiesta Fest with ACE tomorrow night and Saturday. I've been wanting to ride Iron rattler for years now, and will complete my set of US RMC's (except for the new ones of course... Those are later this year :P )
