General Carowinds discussion

Does CF really need to close TR so early in the season just for a water park expansion that won't need to be ready until next summer? I wouldn't think so. I'm cautiously optimistic that this closure is leading to something bigger than an expansion to the waterpark and will be equal to or greater than Thunder Road.

I'm choosing to trust CF on this for now.

Capler wrote:Personally, this all seems like a masterfully orchestrated PR plan. You got the web exploding, folk putting up petitions, people planning finally rides, (certainly helps with this years park numbers, doesn't it?) and more importantly, this has knocked Fury stopping on the life hill right out of the news cycle.

I have started to consider this, too. That was a very curt announcement they made. On Facebook? With just a little picture? This is a company that's demonstrated they know PR. It just seems...minor...for them.

This wouldn't be the first time a company has riled up fans on purpose, just to raise awareness. So people get upset, start petitions, and get organizing. Then, in a few months (perhaps on the "final" day), Carowinds relents and says, "Golly gee, guys. You convinced us. We're not going to get rid of Thunder Road after all!"

Then they can reveal their full renovation/reconstruction/RMC/whatever plans. Which, of course, they had all along.

I think they knew at Fury's announcement day last August that Thunder Road was leaving. But of course they were not ready to reveal that yet, only to hint at a "big splash" to come. Hopefully this will be a major water ride of some sort, and not just a water park expansion. And hopefully they will eventually replace Thunder Road with another big coaster to maintain their coaster count. Sorry to see it go, but I agree its time has come.

I noticed a couple of mentions in this thread regarding Fury getting stuck on the lift hill. I was there one day in April when it did this. I wasn't aware it had become a repeated problem. How many times has this happened? Still looking forward to riding it. Hopefully this isn't going to be another Windseeker situation

[s]Barbie[/s] Barbwire doesn't know sh!t!!!!!! He's a broken clock...

I wonder if they are gonna do something special for the last rides...

I think a few people are still going through the five stages of grief over Thunder Road. I skipped all the doubt, sadness, and bartering, went straight to anger, and now I've accepted it. Don't know if I should be proud about that....

It's hard to imagine a future without Thunder Road.... :(

I think the reality of the situation has finally hit me...I nearly cried while thinking about it last night...

But I really think they planned this poorly. They should have either given a more solid reason for removing it or gone ahead and announced or at least hinted at the replacement(s).
