I have started to consider this, too. That was a very curt announcement they made. On Facebook? With just a little picture? This is a company that's demonstrated they know PR. It just seems...minor...for them.
This wouldn't be the first time a company has riled up fans on purpose, just to raise awareness. So people get upset, start petitions, and get organizing. Then, in a few months (perhaps on the "final" day), Carowinds relents and says, "Golly gee, guys. You convinced us. We're not going to get rid of Thunder Road after all!"
Then they can reveal their full renovation/reconstruction/RMC/whatever plans. Which, of course, they had all along.
