They added Cobra, Intimidator, Fury, Windseeker, and Taste of the Carolinas. They brought back Harmony Hall, overhauled the entrance to give it a little 'new south' flair, and are now refurbishing skytower. Their idea of Carowinds is definitely to bring back some theme, while also making the park modern. At the end of the day, I am really glad that CF is in charge -but that doesn't mean I agree with every single decision they make. And that certainly doesn't change my support for the #SaveThunderRoad movement. (BTW: I just checked and the petition has over 2,000 signatures!)

I know I contradict myself a lot (and it's what I'm about to do right now), but I know there's some way Cedar Fair will justify TR's removal. Cedar Fair has done a lot to improve the park and the only bad addition they have made so far Dinosaurs Alive (and IMO, Cobra, but that was a huge success for the park, so it's not really a 'bad' investment.) With each historic removal, they have replaced it with something better. The flume was replaced by Intimidator. The Plantation House entrance plaza was replaced by a modern, and honestly better looking plaza. Compare this to Paramount who replaced our beautiful sternwheeler with a rough, mediocre vekoma and demolished several of Carowinds' original buildings. The only good things they brought to the park were Top Gun (which is awesome) and the Phantom Flyers (which could be awesome if I knew to snap). Whatever Cedar Fair is bringing next year has to be amazing and possibly better than Thunder Road. I have a hard time believing that they'd do something stupid like replacing the coaster with a few water slides.

Although I am very upset with Thunder Roads removal, I feel like Cedar Fair can make a worthy replacement. Cedar Fair has done miracles for the park before, and I think that they know what they are doing. I agree with Tarheel, as long as there is a good replacement, I will be happy. But until then, I still want to #SaveThunderRoad. Hopefully Carowinds will announce something soon so we don't all explode with nostalgia.... I'm starting to get confused with Coasterbruh and Barbwire's "speculation"...

one things for certain, they dont need to shut down thunder road in july to be able to install a few slides. those things go up in a month. whatever this is, it has to be a pretty large project to merit such an early start. Especially since the water park wont open until may.

I saw the WBTV report about Thunder Road and they did a good job of highlighting the sentimental attachment folks have to the ride. But they seemed to indicate it was definitely coming down to be replaced with new attractions, but they didn't say what. But I wonder if they will wait till August to make the "big splash" announcement since Thunder Road is closing in July.

Cedar Fair's comment about pre-Cedar Fair additions making the park stagnant couldn't be closer to the truth. I mean, look, there are 14 coasters at Carowinds right now! Fourteen! That's more than 95% of other parks in the world! But, despite that, there are really only three that make it worth traveling a long distance to the park. Two of those were added in the last five years by Cedar Fair. While I'm not saying that TR is one of the rides that have made the park stagnant, I do agree with Cedar Fair's decisions to improve the park. I'm sure that whatever we get, whether it be a waterpark expansion or a water ride, it will be worth the loss.

I fail to see how it could be enough. They are making a big and sad mistake. I honestly wouldn't care if it was a 500ft launched coaster that I begged for in another thread. This ride is so iconic for Carowinds..... This is a line that would have been better left uncrossed. Beep waterpark.

Carowinds isn't gonna demolish TR, it wouldn't make sense, especially since they made a path under TR. Why would they make that path, just to take it all down? They could replace Rip Roarin Rapids, it's been lacking of water. Any thoughts on that being a possibility?

I called it with a giga that went underground when we were all guessing on what fury would be, i'm gonna call it now, with half of thunder road going away.... last RACE. the side closer to the water park is a much smoother ride, and there are not many times i've been there that the side close to the parking lot has even been open. There will be no more racing, as half the ride is going away, but a flume (or other water ride) will be put in it's place.
