It's a log flume. Which sucks to lose Thunder Road over. I can name 9 other coasters I'd rather be leaving our park.

As I've stated numerous times, I'd love to see a Mack Water Coaster come into the park. They look like fun and adding one would partially fill the void left by Thunder Road. They're highly accessible, carrying a 42" height requirement, and they are capacity MONSTERS. JTA at Seaworld San Diego has an estimated capacity of 1900 PPH. Carowinds could still keep its coaster count and have a log flume type-ride which would please much of its local customer base. The only issue I see with adding this is cost. Storm at Sea World Australia was $20 million AU, which is about $15.6 million in USD. That ride is one of the shorter water coasters. That's why I hope the $50 million was extra money from Cedar Fair and not the total amount of money being pumped into the park.

in one of the threads I remember hearing that carowinds stated that they are giving the gp what they want. The only 2 things the gp have been screaming for years are a separate entrance for the water park, and a log flume. I predict you will see both of those next year. The real water park expansion, the following year. And finally carowinds gets its launch coaster in 2018.

Realistically. Someone I know is convinced that Carowinds is pulling this as publicity stunt and will "change their minds" at the last minute and keep the ride open. This person believes that Carowinds is doing this to pull attention off of Fury being "stuck" on the lift.

I even have a $10 bet that she is wrong, so come July 27th when Thunder Road comes down I will be $10 richer. But minus one of my favorite coasters.

I'm surprised that "River Battle" ( or whatever they're officially called) isn't an option in the poll, and am super surprised more people aren't discussing one as a possibility. They have low height restrictions, are very family friendly, allow people on and off ride to get wet, and can be enjoyed by even people that are afraid of the thrill rides. I hate them, but my kids think they're the most fun rides ever.

Oh! And my realistic guess is some sort of water ride (coaster, log ride, or river battle) AND some changes to the waterpark. Because I like to be different.

Well...well...ahem...well...if we are being real here, its gonna take more than next year to replace thunder road. This isn't like saturator/cobra. Sure , what is coming next year will use a portion of the land but a majority will be seemingly left untouched...pure "speculation". Its gonna bee a few years until we see the full potential of the space formally known to house thunder road...

REALISTICALLY, I see half the area being taken up by future waterpark, and half the area being a updated/upgraded county fair (with a coaster at some point). Surely the entire area won't be waterpark..?

Also, who's to say that the waterpark as it stands won't get some substantial upgrades? The main changing facility in the middle is old as dirt and is in no way becoming of a "destination park." If they could do what they did for the front gate, for the waterpark (not even including any new attractions) that would be incredible.

That's quite similar to what I've been thinking, Jay. I can't see that entire area becoming waterpark, especially since it looks like T-Road isn't the only part of County Fair that's getting changed.

What is probably dooming T-Road in all this is it's long and straight. A good sized GCI / RMC / whatever could fit anywhere in the "New County Fair" portion. Somehow I kinda see it placed where you'll be looking directly at the coaster as you crest Afterburn's lift. It also would be farther away from the waterpark border, so any noise concerns that may also be dooming T-Road would be mitigated

Wouldn't a ride like this be too similar to Hurler? Probably, in some ways. If a new woodie goes in this section, I'd imagine Hurler's days would be numbered, although it'd probably stick around until a new ride was going in it's spot.

Good idea about upgrading things in the current waterpark area. I'm thinking that changing facility dates back to the original Ocean Island days with some occasional upgrades in the years since.

The changing facility was built new as part of the original Waterworks expansion that added the lazy river. I don't think it's had any major renovations since (then again I haven't been in the water park in probably 10 years or so) which makes it nearly 20 years old.
