Im pretty sure that $50 million was a generic figure to present to media and state officials. I have no doubt that carowinds has already surpassed $50 million. 2016 improvements is likely new money. Cedar fair can spend what they want.

So a "Flesh eating crow" themed dive coaster? I'm down... #ScrewThunderRoad?

It would be super nice to have some flats. We need like 20 more of those to catch up to a lot of parks. Again still not worth losing Thunder Road over though.

This would never happen in a million years after what happened with Skyhawk but my favorite flat rides are Screamin Swings.

I always understood that the $50 million was in addition to what Carowinds would normally be investing in the park. If 2016 is a year where Carowinds would normally spend about $10 million in off season work and additions, then that $10 million would be added to what is left of the $50 million.

I think there is a chance that awesome aussie gets relocated as well. if they put in a new entrance, people are going to have walk around it to get to the changing room/lockers etc.

Let's hope for new changing rooms, the current ones are well 1997 and maybe 1989....eww

So I think this question was already asked, but for those of you who know or have a pretty good idea of the park's plans, is it at all possible for the new attractions (2016 and beyond) to still be added but without the removal of Thunder Road?

Oh and I see we have this now: :sarcasm:

No one this forum has seen any plans and those that claim to have info heard it from someone, who heard it from someone, that heard it from someone etc.. So what they heard may have some factual information but more than likely is their best guess. Nobody but cedar fair management in charge of improvements can answer your question.

First of all, thanks for some of the great posts in this thread! It's some of the funniest and best discussion I've seen in awhile - and everybody was civil.

I do think there are a few people on here who have a generally solid idea of some of the changes - they just know better to not spill the beans or they'll lose their sources. I don't want it ruined and enjoy all the hints and speculation. Because of some inconsiderate people in the past, the park is a lot more tight lipped, now, and I don't blame them.

To reply to a comment on one of my posts 5 pages back (been slammed at work and am catching up ), I don't think there is any chance of Thunder Road getting the RMC treatment. While I like the coaster, I just don't think an out-and-back racing woodie is interesting enough to invest in an RMC treatment. Topper track in some of the bad spots should reduce long-term maintenance costs and smooth out the rough areas.

But, I just reread the Carowinds post about Thunder Road and there is very little wiggle room in the wording. It seems clear to me in that post that TR will be removed.

I'm not so sure about that...Colossus @ SFMM is not an out and back coaster, yet SF management thought it was interesting enough to invest in. It does however still "race" somewhat in some areas.
just sayin....

This made absolutely no sense. SF thought it was interesting enough because it wasn't an out-and-back design. Sure they both race but that's the only similarity they had in design.

I wonder if they ever thought about using RMC and combining the two sides to make the world's longest wooden coaster. It would have had the record by about 300 feet.
