I am beginning to wonder if they may be indeed planning some sort of retrofit or redesign afterall. Could be wrong, but why would they actively publicize the demise of a popular attraction that will only make most folks sad or mad? From a PR standpoint, it seems more like negative publicity rather than appealing nostalgia. Unless they have some sort of unexpected surprise in mind. But probably just wishful thinking I guess.

Thunder Road is as good as dead, but I really wonder if the park was prepared for this. I know Jonathan and Jarsh said it was probably a hard choice and that their hands were tied, but a lot of people have voiced their outrage over this decision and would not be interested in the water park expansion. I don't know how they'll make up for this, but I'm not the one running the park.

Another big coaster sooner than later would help satisfy me.

Personally, the removal of Thunder Road isn't really that big of a deal. It is a decent ride, but there are better, and more nostalgic woodies out there.

I understand it is a park classic, but it is no true classic like Coney Islands Cyclone, or any of Kennywoods woodies. Knowing how smart Cedar Fair is, I'm sure whatever its replacing Rolling Thunders will put it to shame. Just the fact that this park added Fury proves that this place has the potential of becoming one of the best amusment parks in the world.

Sure, but those rides are "true classics" in part because no one demolished them in the 1960's after 40 years of operation.

And they also are better rides. Carowinds doesn't have the same kind of history as parks like Kennywood do.

Rolling Thunders [sic] was removed from Six Flags Great Adventure in 2013. It was never at Carowinds.
