General Carowinds discussion
#81565
I was thinking about going multiple mornings to get a number of posters, and then getting in touch with the moderators here to arrange a contest/drawing for them because I knew there would be many people here who would want them much more than me. And many of those people wouldn't be able to get there as easily as I could in the mornings. I figured I'd even pay the couple of bucks for a tube and to ship it to them.

But I didn't because honestly I even wondered if that was being uncool (to other people trying to get to the park early in the mornings for a poster). I don't have any childhood memories tied to Thunder Road, so I never even wanted one for myself. So I never got any.

I probably should have done it, after reading this. Now, I feel like a jerk.

We were the first riders again this morning with my family. We got another 5 posters to take home but when we left some woman tried stealing one from my son.
(First ride on the last day of thunder road baby!!)

The neat thing is that they're selling parts of the track and we bought 10 of those for 130 dollars ( I'm a memorabilia collector ) so I'll have some for later

Oh yeah almost forgot the news was here and they did interview me out front near the sign !! So you guys will see me on TV soon.

Can't wait to meet all you guys at harmony hall tonight. We might have trouble riding tho. Record breaking numbers today but we still having a great time!

There's a booth in front of the entrance selling merchandise including the wood blocks and the Nanocoasters. Confirmed that the trains are going to Kings Island and Kings Dominion, the wood is going o the closest junkyard that will accept it, and demolition begins August 4th.

RIP in peace.

I would love a nanocoaster, but can't get to Carowinds anytime soon :(

Well this morning only the SC side was working (We were the first riders on the last day! )

But around 10 or 11 they opened up the NC side and the lines virtually disappeared.
The photo that pproteinc posted was previous to NC side opening, so its a bit of a misrepresentation. (everyone had to go left so it overcrowded)

They're both running now so we should see a lot of line chewing per hour. I think TR accomidates 2400 per hour or something like that.

Tonight is going to be a blast. I am at my condo right now just relaxing but I'll be coming back to the park in an hour or two. We're getting ready for our second trip back (The sun was burning us) and we will be ready for the marathon tonight till 10PM.

Most of the merchandise they are selling doesn't say thunder road on it sadly.

The track blocks. The Nanocoaster. The mini pins and some of the T-shirts have thunder road on em

Please forgive me as I have rarely posted here. What part of Thunder Road are these pieces that are for sale from? Also there's no way I can get to Carowinds this year. Will they be for sale in some sort of online store? As you've heard a million times before, TR was my first coaster ever. I wish I could be there, and I'd love to have a permanent memory of it.

This is all we know unless someone gets insider information.

(I speculate that it was wood taken from the turn around on the SC side. as I saw they had replaced 3-4 of the support beams with fresh wood.)

They only had 50 or so this morning and the sign says very limited quantities.
I doubt they will sell it online.

The wood was the only souvenirs we bought because it's a real piece of history and not some junk made in china models!

I know I'm not a frequent poster, but my home park is Canobie Lake Park in New Hampshire. I've never been to Carowinds and I'm still depressed to hear about Thunder Road's closure. Another local closure of mine, Cyclone, when it shut down for the RMC treatment, I was horribly disappointed. I recently took a ride on it and it was outstanding.

Anyways...

I don't like Cedar Fair's decision to close Thunder Road, as there are better ways to expand the water park. I hope they don't take the Six Flags trend and start shutting down other wooden coasters around the chain such as Rebel Yell, Racer, High Roller, etc.

I have high hopes for Cedar Fair as they never disappoint ( I don't like Six Flags too much... ) but this decision wasn't a smart one.

I didn't think it'd come as fast as it did, but I hope everyone enjoyed Thunder Road, and I don't think it should of gone, but what can we do...
