Demo is underway.

Electrical cables and runners are piled up:

Mike said on Periscope they are going to recycle the brakes as spare parts.

Some of the lower horizontal and angled braces have been cut off of the turnarounds. Sorry for the terrible pics, there is only so much a phone camera can do.

I know this is a sad occasion for a lot of people (spoiler tags though? ) but I think this will be a rare and interesting opportunity to see a coaster come down, piece by piece (or in one big piece?). It should be fascinating to compare and contrast versus the many coasters we've seen go up recently.

Awesome pics LocalYokel, thanks for sharing!

^ Which is exactly why I think it would be interesting to have a webcam turned towards TR. Its not every day you get to see a coaster come down. And they could leave cam 1 pointed at Fury for those who don't want to watch it get torn down but instead just show up one day and it be gone completely. (Which is understandable.)

Anyway Here are some great shots of thunder road!

Yeah no kidding. It looks like he used a full frame body with a 300-600mm lens (zoom) and went up on top of the Skytower and Down Under Thunder tower (Near the top where the slides go down) so he was overlooking the main ThunderRoad Drop.

Never thought to go up on those areas to take photos of TR. but jeez he really got some amazing shots that way.
I kind of regret not figuring this out before hand.. .

It's too late now

I got my last ride in on Saturday. I'm so very, very sad.

I'm still going to Carowinds. I can't NOT go. I'd miss Fury  ...But I'm definitely taking this harder than I thought I would. I LOVED Thunderroad even before they announced the closing. I had just posted a bunch of pictures of it and a video of my friend and I getting excited to ride it on FB. It was my 3rd fave coaster at the park. The first being Fury, the second, Intimidator...I'll miss it a lot. :(

I hope at least whatever it's replaced with will be enjoyed by many. Since it appears to be water park expansion, it doesn't interest me because I'm not a water park person. I can't remember the last time I went in Boomerrang Bay, or rode the rapids or White Water Falls. Wet N Wild is 10 minutes from me and I don't go there either. It's just not my thing.

You and I are in the exact same boat. I shed a few tears on Sunday and I'm sure there will be more to come when they actually start ripping it down.

Same. It's unforgivable to me. Nothing can replace it.

I realize I have to be careful about what I say and how I say things around here. 9 times outta 10 I am actually just posting to continue the convo. There is nothing more to meets the eye than in that post. And GOD no, I don't have a list of anything coaster/theme park related. I'll loose my street/hood cred if I even tried to do something like that lol.

So no, that does not mean 20 things are coming to the park next year, nor does anyone know what is replacing Thunder Road. I think the park has ideas but not 100% locked on what will replace it...but the land (it sat on( on the other hand...

This is a very good point. Next year's attraction is expected to be a water park expansion with a "big splash." This is what we perceive. But the water park expansion won't truly be a replacement for Thunder Road, it will merely occupy its space. Any sort of replacement for Thunder Road should be considered another rollercoaster, and that will probably be several years away. And may or may not necessarily be a wooden coaster. Which begs the question, what type of coaster should replace Thunder Road, and where should it be located?
