General Carowinds discussion

I also think Carowinds should go a little heavier on the vintage theme of Thrill Zone. They should set up Hurler's station to look like a someone's garage (like how Verbolten's station looks like a travel agency). Fury would be the only thing out of place but the rest of the section could be easily rethemed.

From what my parents have told me from their visits to the park during the Paramount days, Hurler's station used to have some of the best theming in the park. Apparently it was set up as a sound stage with the Wayne's World set inside. Can anyone confirm this?

There is growing interest for a MLS team coming to town. With the success of the Knights in uptown there is buzz beginning for an MLB team. We have an NBA team. We have not only NASCAR but the NASCAR Hall of Fame.

Let's not get carried away here. Charlotte is far from being able to support a MLB team. I believe attendance for the Knights is down from last year too. I doubt the NASCAR HOF has broken even on the investment to build vs. revenue from ticket/merchandise sales.

Knights attendance is down from 9686 per game last year to 9478 this year. So maybe a 2% drop.

Tampa's MLB team is only bringing in 15,000 per game, to think Charlotte couldn't hit those numbers is laughable.

And while the NASCAR hall of fame has underperformed as a museum, it has been a success when talk turns to the convention center which is bringing in conventions that didn't look to Charlotte before.

Which is my whole point, Charlotte is growing, the market in Charlotte is growing. No, not everything lives up to its potential, but it doesn't have to break the bank to be an added draw for those looking for something to do.

Not able to support an MLB team? HA! Look at Tampa at the bottom or the picture and Charlotte at the top...

Actually, this is what you should be looking at. TB metro has an extra 750k people. THAT'S the difference.

so went to carowinds today, havnt been since media day, Iv'e avoided nighthawk through the years because the line was always long. was able to get a ride on it today. jeebus, I thought the hurler was the roughest ride in the park, I was wrong. Nighthawk is awful. It was so rough it took away any enjoyment the ride could have given. The ride looks pretty but thats about it.

Yea - even when watching the POV's of Nighthawk and Firehawk, I can hear the trains going Bang Bang POW..It is a beautiful coaster and I love the color scheme - but I liked Thunder Road much better - They are taking one of Carowinds better coasters away :(

I also heard both intimidators are going to be re-named and re-themed on a YouTube video by coaster studios (he isn't sure but he thinks that's what will happen next season because of the licencing being up? Not sure.

At any rate, I know Carowinds will ultimately get a signature wooden coaster - I wish they could have planned it so that the new woodie would replace thunder road, without going years with only one big mediocre woodie.

Check your math, the difference is only about 530,000

But when you compare similar sports in the city of Charlotte vs Tampa you find. NFL Charlotte 73,607. Tampa 59,659.

Tampa beats Charlotte by 6,000 in hockey.

I still maintain that Charlotte would have no problem supporting an MLB team.

And since you favor the statistical area chart, Charlotte is larger than Cleveland, which has an MLB team.

Charlotte is also larger than Pittsburgh, Kansas City, and Milwaukee.

I appreciate the debate about where Charlotte fits among other cities, however an important point has been missed. Ohioans are drawn to the Carolinas like moths to a flame. There is no logical explanation for the mass migration from Ohio to Charlotte. Despite grass roots efforts to discouge them (such as gobacktoohio.com), buckeyes love this area. Cedar Fair can't help it, like everything else from Ohio they have an insatiable need to move to the Carolinas.
