I'm glad I watched it, now I know that The Swarm is a world class ride and Carowinds has a Wonder Mountain. :sarcasm:

So in the show last night there was a quote from the host that went something like "They say it goes 95 (MPH) but it really goes over 100". This got me thinking back when they were testing when someone reported the ride was going about 115 MPH but there was no source to back it up. So my question is, do you guys think Fury goes over 100 MPH (personally I do)? And also is there any way to find out if it really does? I have a radar gun I would love to take to the park one day but I can't get close enough to the drops for it to work.

98, maybe... but I kind of doubt it. Any higher than that, definitely not. If anyone has clocked it at 100 then their radar gun is not calibrated right. The great thing about the laws of physics is that they do not change. To hit 100 mph even in a frictionless environment (which this is absolutely not) the train would have to crest the lift at nearly 23 mph.

Which it might get close to if they didn't slow it down at the top. I don't know what the speed of B&M's lift hills are, but for Fury to get up there as fast as it does, it's gonna be moving along at a good clip.

I remember a while back watching the WWU videos, someone said Fury would have the same lift speed as Intimidator and that is definitely no the case. If all the trains are stacked and the lift doesn't have to slow down, you'll gat to the top in about 39 seconds which I bet is similar to the time Intimidator takes to get to the top. Except for the fact Mini Timmy is 100 feet shorter.

I would be fascinated to know how fast it's going in the afternoons on a 95+ degree day.

I remember riding it on preview night and enjoying the slight slowdown and sideways hangtime on the turnaround before dropping under the tunnel. But riding it yesterday afternoon, we just blew past that thing like it was nothing. Would be cool to see some actual stats on that.

Right, there is definitely a noticeable speed difference in warmer weather, as with most coasters. But, it's not the top speed that changes. There's likely very little measurable difference in the top speed at the bottom of the first drop at any given date or time of day. It's the loss of speed due to friction over the duration of the ride that varies, which is why sometimes you hit the turnaround a bit faster than others or sometimes the trim near the end of the ride kicks in and sometimes it doesn't.
