This study may be completely worthless, I have no idea, but by their methodology Charlotte is one of the worst candidates for an MLB team out of 83 US/Canadian markets: http://www.bizjournals.com/bizjournals/ ... city1.html

I don't think it's a worthless study but I think the important note in the article is that it is only looking at the financial side of things. There's a graph out there that uses the numbers from this study for each sport and questions based on the Available Personal Income, whether each city could support the various major league teams. Charlotte failed for MLB NHL NFL NBA and MLS. Yet we have an NBA and NFL team. In fact our NFL team is one of the best for average attendance last year.

The study is only seeing if people have enough disposable income to support a team it doesn't factor in competition from other local Major league teams. There is no other MLB team close by. So you pull from more than just the Charlotte metro, just like with the Panthers, and as long as you're smart enough to put Carolina in the team name so more people outside the city can feel like it's their team, you extend your drawing power.

It would make sense for Cedar Fair to want to make Carowinds their premiere park. Cedar Point draws mainly from Cleveland and Detroit which are both very unhealthy financially speaking.

I'm 14 and bored, so I drew a 120 mile radius around Carowinds. I know Cedar Fair said their parks draw customers from a 150 mile radius, but I felt 120 miles was a safe bet on who you can count on visiting the parks and not just the potential customer base.

Being originally from NC and now living in Lexington KY, not far at all from Ohio, the weather can be very similar. I can attest that I've never lived in a CLOUDIER place in my life!!!!!!!!! The winter time here has almost NO sun and it's so much colder to me than even when I lived in the mountains of NC in Brevard.

I've actually been to Cleveland but I don't remember it being that horrible, but this was 1993 when I went. I wonder where they got the title "best location in the nation?"

I live in Raleigh and I've had to explain where Carowinds is more than once to locals, but it doesn't happen very often.

Cleveland is one the most depressing cities I've ever been to. I haven't been to Detroit, but the only place I can think of more miserable than Cleveland is Charleston, WV. And basically all of West Virginia. I don't even know anyone from West Virginia but just driving through it makes me sad that anything living or not occupies that state.

On the other side of Cedar Point, I thought Toledo was one of the most depressing places I've ever been to. I've been to Detroit but before it tanked and I thought it was a step up from Toledo.

So I'm still 14 and bored, but I remember someone at last year's announced quoted Mike saying that Carowinds needs a good train ride. A form of transportation around the park isn't going to draw people in. Usually they're just built with the park, so I think we can rule out a full-sized train, monorail, or skyride. But I started thinking about Planet Snoopy. If we follow the trends around Cedar Fair, it's likely that Carowinds will get a Planet Snoopy expansion. Dinos Alive are probably on the way out soon, so that's prime real estate for expansion. And when that expansion comes, I think it would be great to see Shortline Railroad (Snoopy's Junction) extended so that it envelopes most of Planet Snoopy instead of just going behind Harmony Hall. Another great thing about that is that the original train's footprint would free up some space for a Dollywood-sized splash battle. Anything in the way of the train's route could be moved to the Dinosaurs Alive space. It would certainly be better than the ghetto two-times-around train we currently have.

The disk-o at dollywood hurt my manhood all to bits but would love to see some of those cool flats placed there. Probably next year it will happen. Splash battle would make me want to stay there with the kids as well.
