General Carowinds discussion

Great article and spectacular news! Ouimet continues to do great things.

Of course this seems to contradict the whole notion of "people voting with their feet" and wanting modern things, not caring about nostalgia...

I like that there is a Whip pictured. That's one of my favorite flat rides. Dorney actually has one.

Automatically after reading the article, my first thought was "log flume!", but with Jarvis' hinting at a flat in the County Fair and the article discussing flat rides, I think we may see a Rotor return to the park. Not a fan of spinning rides (though I can handle flipping and inversions, but I get a Scream Weaver vibe from rotors), but it should satisfy all of the people threatening to protest the park (they'd probably come regardless).

I wonder if someday people will realize that Jarvis is combining both logical speculation and trolling to get you all hanging on his every word.

I kind of doubt you'll see anymore rotors installed in the US due to liability concerns. Most parks have taken theirs out.

^ Um, isn't doubting the words of Jarvis considered treason? I thought I read that in the rules he sent me.

On the vintage note, I love the idea of some fun, older-style rides coming to Carowinds. Heck, I'd be happy with a Ferris Wheel.

Every time Jarvis posts something, it's not always speculation or teasing. Maybe he just wants to keep the conversation moving. But likewise, that was an interesting read. Honestly, I think that some of those old rides would be a great fit for Carowinds (of course if they were more updated to today's technological standards).

Since it does seem like the County Fair area will indeed be changed in some way (other than having a beloved roller coaster ripped away from it), I sincerely hope that it gets overhauled. I'd love a path from the South gate to the new and improved water park, but the rest of the area should be completely remade to look and feel like an actual fair or carnival. With the addition of some classic flats, I think the whole area would be rejuvenated. Fingers crossed!

I'd love to see a regional park add a true County Fair section complete with a Tilt-A-Whirl, Yo-Yo, Zipper, Scrambler, Gravitron, Bumper Cars, Paratrooper, Spider/Octopus, etc.

Yes that is exactly what a county fair should have, all the traditional carnival rides. Including a ferris wheel. And bring back that original swing ride they used to have, Whirling Dervish. Don't know why they ever got rid of it.

"Ouimet is hoping parents will remember the rides from their youth and want to introduce their children to the vintage attractions"

Where was this statement when considering the removal of TR???

That is some great news! I really think County Fair will get a major over haul. I think that they will bring "Wild Bull" back... I wish they would take out YO YO and bring back the good swings...

They have to put the vintage attractions somewhere...

Re: Rotors

There aren't many left at parks and as far as I know all that have been taken out of parks have been scrapped. Nobody builds them and in the U.S. it's unlikely you'd see one put in due to insurance and liability concerns, sadly.

Id love to have a bayern curve back, but nobody that I know makes them. Is wild bull even still at the park? Doubtful it'll come back. Kennywood had to take theirs out a few seasons because parts have to be custom made and that's expensive and hard to get.

I do hope they find sone rides, tho! European fairs and parks tend to have a glut of flats compared to us.
