Oh, yeah. There is certainly more. And I can't wait until they debut the new (content removed)

Now you're riding on Jarvis's coattails?

Jay wrote:YOU guys don't know that for sure. I've heard from enough sources that Thunder Road had major maintenance problems, stuff that required more than retracking by GCI wouldn't fix. Simply put, Thunder Road wasn't popular enough to spend that kind of money on it, while this waterpark addition will make it's money back extremely quickly. This isn't rocket surgery. Also don't tell me what I know. Thanks.

What some people need to consider is, it's hard to justify spending (just guessing, here) million(s) of dollars on a 40 year old ride. You can't promote a 40 year old coaster. You can't run advertisements about how you spent all this money repairing a 40 year old coaster. It's hard to justify spending that amount of money when the ridership is so low. Had their been constant lines, I'm sure they would have made the move.

I feel like the people who are saying this water park expansion isn't worth the removal of Thunder Road are being completely ridiculous at this point. I guess when the parent company of your home park is investing millions of dollars into the park and all you can do is find a way to complain about something... I just feel like you are kind of being ungrateful. These type of rapid expansions (Fury 325, Waterpark, Etc.) do not happen at parks that often.

I can't say that I'm jumping up and down excited, however, all i have seen are some drawings. I'll hold judgement till i see some renderings and fly-bys. I really appreciate all the CF is doing to build up and promote Carowinds. I have been going all season and loving it. Are there things I wish were different? Sure, and I'm also sure that will always be the case for everyone you speak to. Part of dealing with the GP is knowing that you can't make everyone happy and sometimes there will be moping and whining. It's just part of the game.

I'm not a waterpark kind of guy so last year I was in hog heaven with the new coaster, but I'm sure there are lots of people who are not coaster fans who will be excited about the water park. It's a win/win situation. In the end, everyone will be MOSTLY happy.

I think if we spent more time actually discussing what is happening instead of trying to second guess and get all the scoop ahead of time, we might be a bit more happy. Does anyone else feel like knowing everything in advance is kinda like finding your parents stash of Christmas presents for you? The presents are awesome, but there is just something missing.

Ok....freeing up the soapbox for someone else. (checking weather and hoping no rain after work....want to hit 100 rides on Fury.)

I think it's fair to say this is only "Phase 1" of a multi-phase plan. There's still a ton of space where Thunder Road's station, lift and turnarounds were, that lots of cool stuff could go. Also underlying maintenance issues for Thunder Road still may have necessitated it's removal.

agreed. also everything may not be in this set of plans. Slingshot was a surprise last year.

Because if this waterpark expansion does not use the Thunder Road site, then what is going there?

I'll show you . . . :shh:

Can I get in on this? :D

Also correct me if I'm wrong but won't this make Boomerang Bay/Carolina Harbor/Whatever the hell its called the biggest water park in the chain next year as far as pure number of attractions go?

It could just be a path in memory of Thunder Road? It follows directly where the center of the tracks are.

this is kinda what I was thinking, it definitely stands out. now it is a thunder "road" or pathway
