General Carowinds discussion

^ I also posted a picture of it earlier in this thread.

Hey guys, let's not beat each other up over varying opinions. We have to understand this isn't everyones cup of tea. I personally appreciate different opinions on what the park is getting. This is what the park wants, dialogue. It helps them realize what people as a whole would like to see and helps them cater to virtually everyone.

if I had to bet, I would think the carolina harbor rain fortress will be themed like Michigan adventures

Ive also been looking at the schematics for white waters rain fortress and dont see an exact match, so either the features on them are interchangeable or maybe carowinds is getting a new product from them

I would definitely hope we get something different then Kings Dominion. That would be silly to put the same exact type of slide(s) here, especially if they have any intention to make it stand out compared to other parks.
But then again I am pretty much in the middle between Carowinds and KD, so while I think it would be nice for some variety at neighboring parks, maybe the GP wouldn't really care.

It seems it will be the same slides but that's ok because they have found the holy grail of thrill slides in this complex. It dances from low thrills with the sidewinder slides to moderate thrills with the double and single drop ending tube slides to the extreme thrills drop box slides. Honestly, all water slides are the same with a variation of s turn or two. Many parks already had the bowl and wall slides but they are still stand out star attractions of the current water park. I am personally glad they are cloning these slides because they are just that good! I'm glad I now don't have to travel to dorney or kings dominion or valley fair or oceans of fun to experience them!

Amen!!

For anyone who has actually ridden these already, did any of them have strobe effects inside? I hope we get that on a couple of the body slides at least. I seem to recall a video of them on the complex at Dorney, and they look awesome. It's the little touches that really can enhance a ride experience.

I'd rather have Thunder Road. Especially since everything they are adding could have been built on the other side of the track. People have said that there was nothing they could do to market a 40 year old ride but that's not true..... I think we could all agree what RMC has done is amazing. And all of the old unpopular wood coasters at six flags are now extremely popular hybrid, world class rides that the GP can't get enough of. But for some reason CF dosnt like RMC maybe? All I'm saying is that no matter how great of a water park expansion this is, I'll always have that in the back of my mind. No I'm not saying I could run a theme park. It's not selfish either. It's my opinion, and Im entitled to it.

Also I'm really surprised that the mini golf and white decked area didn't bite the dust in this whole deal.

And I think the slide complex is that clone going around CF which looks like a good thing actually.

I don't think the GP knows or cares that KD has the same slides. The drop capsule slides will still be unique to the area. No other water park in the Carolinas has them! :D Hopefully they'll actually be fun and won't try to murder me like Pipeline Peak.

^ RMC was booked for 2016, but that's the last company I want touching Thunder Road. They can go all out on Hurler, but even if they just retracked TR, I feel it would've taken away the classic feel.

No strobes, they are translucent slides except at the end, they get dark for like a few seconds. I marathoned them sunday since everyone who went up, walked right back down lol. They made the mistake of looking down once they stepped into the slides. Its a clear plexiglass floor and all you see and a never ending drop hahahaha

I like the new kids stuff. It means the kids can go to the waterpark and be more enjoyed while I ride The Fury all by myself. Hopefully more will come. A bit underwhelming so far but honestly Thunder Road was a ghost town so I get why they said na no on keeping it.

The thing I don't think some people are getting is that, one way or another, Thunder Road would have to go. Let's say hypothetically they did just build on the other side. Even over there is landlocked, just like the existing part of the water park. In a few years if/when they decide to further expand the water park they'd have to rip it out then instead.

Sure we can throw around all kinds of scenarios where it could have stayed, but 99% of those are unfeasible, especially if you take into account the placement of potential future attractions in the water park. Not that I don't/didn't love Thunder Road, but lets be real here.

It wasn't a ghost town.

Thunder Roas was (wow, it feels weird saying "was") an aging woodie in a far corner of the park that hasn't seen a major attraction in a while. Take into account the fact that it was also a dueling coaster, essentially splitting the ridership among two attached coasters, and I think that properly explains the "lack" of riders.

I hated to see TR go, but I would have hated getting the shaft on this expansion and have it scaled back due to not having space to really utilize. Besides, I've said it before but I personslly like a tranquil water park experience. You could barely see rebel Tel at kings dominion since it surrounded by trees.
