Over where the Flight School was they could have daily contests for kids.
Just put up a decent fence, add about 10 kids and one greased pig. First one to hold onto it would get a free meal for the entire family.
Instead of the games that are there add a bobbing for apples kiosk, a Lucky Duck, and maybe, just maybe a stage for a contest of who can eat the most watermelon slices in a given time.
If we are thinking "Fair" then let's get to it.

errr.........im not too sure about bobbing behind mono mandy!! :P But the pig thing is funny. Hey make them wear some overalls w/ only one strap done and make them run around barefoot. Now that would be funny!!

Oh yeah I would love to se a ferris wheel on nick central. In time square they have a 60 ft ferris wheel (inside the store!!.Yeah its awsome!!) and each of the cars (or godalas however you spell it) where designed after a particular character. One was shaped like a tonka yellow truck, one had characters from toy story (my fav movie!!) I think it would be cool if carowinds had one like it, but themed to nick characters.............well heres a picture of it!!

Funny to look back at this old thread and see how little things have changed in 11 years.

Now the wake up call was sent out with the removal of TR and we are hoping again for some changes to this area. I'm guessing we will have a bit more information come Thursday.

More flat rides and classic carnival rides should be added to this area.

A little new with the old.

Along with classic carnival rides, we need to throw some new things in there as well. A coaster would be a good thing to use whether its a new woodie or a mid-sized steel. We need to draw people in there. That's one of the things about County Fair now is that, unless you liked TR, you almost never went back there. It seemed like a different park. I hope they restructure it to where it doesn't feel like it's not part of the Carowinds park and is not out-of-the-way as it is now.

I, for one, probably wouldn't be drawn to a "fair area" unnecessarily but, if it was easy to pass through that area, I would probably be enticed to ride a few things. One thing that may help this is an entrance to the area BEHIND Boo Blasters. People walking around the park get to Whitewater Falls if they could continue straight on into County Fair, it would truly be a boon to traffic in that area. If they move the Whitewater Falls entrance to the water park side of the ride and tear down the old jalopy q-line building at the same time as adding an entrance behind Boo Blasters, it would REALLY further enhance traffic back there. I have ALWAYS hated that County Fair seemed like it was SO removed from everything. The entrance near afterburn helped but they REALLY need an entrance on the other side.

I think it's not too much of a leap of logic to assume that SOMETHING is happening to County Fair next season.
- They just removed the only real reason anyone would go in that area of the park (Thunder Road).
- The theme is dead and the ride selection is stagnant.
- Mike did make that (however vague) comment.
- The complete park overhaul/expansion Cedar Fair keeps bringing up is still in progress.
- Cedar Fair is scouting Europe for retro flat rides to bring back to their parks.
- Coasterbruh... is Coasterbruh. And he says those Coasterbruh things. :shh:

What would I like to see there?
I could go on and on about what kind of flats I would like (ferris wheel, frisbee, tilt-a-whirl, etc. etc.), but really I want the theme to be clear, present, and enjoyable (in addition to the rides). Lights like the ones put up in Carolina Boardwalk would be a start. Get rid of all the games, move them to other areas of the park. Repaint everything that isn't moved, make it FEEL like a fairground. Another thing that I would like is if they replaced the asphalt with pavers, like they've done elsewhere. It looks nicer and reflects the heat better. These are just my thoughts. I'm excited to see where things go for this are in the near future.

What about South Gate....
The pathway over Afterburn's tunnel will be useless if South Gate closes permanently but those the park need three gates when South Gate is open what half the season. I firmly believe South Gate will be replaced by the waterpark gate.

^ All 3 gates should be far enough to hold their own. You have to remember, the water park gate would not be open all season as the north and south gate will be.

10 years and lots of new concepts later I feel the County Fair area can be a new pet project for the park. the advantage it has it that it has room to expand on all sides. As far as rides, I would like to see a tilt-a-whirl, sky fly, troika, frisbee, monster and breakdance to name a few. I also think a stage for a show can do well over there.

As far as coasters, how about something like Verboltens indoor section with a quick dark ride section thru a fun house! Shoot, you can even make it even more simple and do what disney did . . .

But theme it to a fun house experience. Oh wait . . . Hershey just did that. Well, yeah an indoor family thrill coaster will do just fine!

After riding monster 10x at KI I'm all for that ride coming back. I forgot how fun it is. I do agree that county fair is not up to par. The whole layout is out of order. For me it's due to Afterburn's placement. Now if we can re-work the area now that TR is gone I think it can work. Bring wild bull back add a break dance, gravitation, octopus, troika, Air race, power surge, ferris wheel , bring gauntlet and the wave swinger back, move scream weaver and scrambler back to the area and move ricochet over there, add new row type games, not the giant huts there now classic fair food like MarkD said and pavers we'd be good. Place a screaming swing in scramblers current spot and a giant frisbee in scream weaver's spot and a top spin themed to the beach as an anchor attraction for the boardwalk section where u do get wet by the sprayers and of course a decent amount of landscaping as in giant trees and plants. Too much??

I hope not. In the summer, I would love to arrive and park at the South Gate, enter and ride some rides before the crowds got bad, then return to the car to get towels and whatever else and enter the water park for the middle part of the day. Then, as the sun goes down and the water park closes, return to the car and re-enter the park through the South Gate to complete my day on some rides at night. If the Water Park gate completely replaces South Gate, then that would not be possible. I'd have to arrive and park at the main gate, go back to the car and drive over to the water park gate when it opens (or do what I do now and haul stuff through the park). Then drive back to the Main Gate for the evening Carowinds experience. That would simply not be practical. Only other way would be to keep the water park gate open the entire Carowinds operating day even before the water park opens and after it closes.
