Sort of... but wheels are wheels, Intamin or B&M. I seem to recall Leviathan having wheel overheating problems too, though not to the extent of I-305 (which maintains 90+ mph speed for a lot longer with its swooping first turn). I would have expected all of that would have been sorted out with Leviathan, though and would not be a real problem for Fury. The entire ride going down at once suggests it is not a wheel issue or anything that would be isolated to individual trains.

Agreed. If Fury can, and has, run in the 100+ degrees temps from this summer without any wheels melting or shredding off then an 80+ degree day shouldn't be an issue for it.

There is something else wrong here that probably didn't show up until test runs on Saturday morning.

Seems that they were out inspecting the drop (see first image) earlier today. A later image shows that they're trucking in some larger equipment (see second image, three vehicles on back access road underneath drop)... perhaps a small crane? My gut says there's some bigger issue here than overheating wheels and/or vibration...

I'm the person who posted on reddit yesterday. We rode 4 times during ERT and everything seemed fine, but the time lapse above sure doesn't look good. I hope it's back up and running soon!

When I was there two weeks ago, I did notice one spot on the drop where all the paint was already completely gone. I wonder if it could be related to that.

The larger crane was working on the second hill of Fury when I drove past Carowinds at about 2:30pm this afternoon. Couldn't really tell what they were working on.

But this still doesn't explain why there is chipping paint on the rest of the layout.

It's hard to see in the pictures, but in person, it's really noticeable if you look.
It's not just here, it's on most of the layout.
Any ideas?

I would expect the areas that go over the park guest to repainted regularly every 2 years or so.

The paint is chipping because there is a train weighing several tons traveling 90+mph over it thousands of times per day.

Whatever the problem was wasn't cause by paint coming off the rails, unless it was somehow affecting the rides performance. Which has been known to happen before, just not with B&M coasters.

I would actually hope that they would at least touch-up the parts over the entrance EVERY year (not a full paint job.. just touch-up on the rails). Yes, it will cost a little but I'd rather keep the front entrance looking in tip-top shape and let that be made part of the annual budget.

Pretty much every coaster in existence built with painted running rails has the paint completely gone on the areas where the wheels make heavy contact by the end of the first operating season.
