I don't think that anyone thinks you "know nothing" as much as it is you haven't learned that old saying "those that know, don't talk and those that don't know, do." A hint here or there is great, but when every post includes a reference to something you know that you aren't supposed to tell, it tends to get annoying.

I think a lot of times, we hear what we want to hear, too. FamousAmos...I know there's one thing you've alluded to being in future plans, but I happened to be near you when you were talking to someone at Carowinds about it, and the response I heard from them was something to the effect of "hmmm...that's an interesting thought. We may look into that someday." Because it's something you wanted, you may have interpreted that to mean that they were putting that on their radar, but in reality, they honestly may have just meant that there is a possibility they'll consider it somewhere down the road. It's an honest mistake that all of us make at one time or another. But maybe you had a more in depth conversation with someone later saying that they moving forward with it...

Anywho...I think a lot of us know that you have been given some information that not everyone has. I just would respectfully say that if you want them to keep giving you information in the future, you may want to be careful not to mess it up by saying things (or even strongly alluding to things) you've been told in confidence.

I think a couple people here are reading things the way they want to read. Wasn't Thunder Road part of the County Fair, wasn't part of the original rumor that the Dodgems would be moved, or was that broken clock only right about part of what it(he or she by the way?). This slide caught my attention. People are taking the "Cedar Point of the South" quote too literally. Carowinds will probably have the same effect Cedar Point has in their market, but looking at this slide, Carowinds is probably going to turn into Kings Island of the south ride-wise in the next few years. So that means an expanded water park, larger Planet Snoopy, and more family rides. And that's nothing but good considering a large amount of people actually like Kings Island better than Cedar Point.

Where'd you find this? and can it be found for all of the parks in the chain?

Here's another tip:

Strongly hintng about things or discussing things you've heard or "heard" from a park employee is a no no. If I have info I'll share it...unless it comes from the park or an employee. Because the more you do that, the more they're going to tell you what they think you want to hear.

It helps to have sources that aren't employees.

^Yeah, one day just out of curiosity of what she would say, I asked a worker who was sitting in a chair near the box if she knew what was in it. According to her it is a Dinosaur that they moved from Dino's Alive. So all of you people out there who heard about some "big splash", I know what it really is. Its a Dino's expansion in the water park, giving Carowinds the largest Dino park in the world.

So I think I finally found out what "Cedar Point of the South" means. What I really think defines Cedar Point more than its coasters, beaches, and hotels is its market draw and national appeal. In one of the Cedar Point analyst day slides, Cedar Point was described as America's only super-regional park.

I think that's commonly known, but what I'm really getting at is that they want to reach outside the 150 mile radius for Carowinds. I read a PDF of the closed session discussing the expansion, and the long term choice for Cedar Point South would be either Carowinds and Kings Dominion. There's not enough room in the market for both to become destination parks. It's obvious that they want Carowinds to have a heavier Carolina influence, but Carowinds and KD aren't technically in the same market. So it looks like Cedar Fair is looking to grow Carowinds into somewhat of a super-regional park reaching out as far as Richmond. Exciting things are in store for Carowinds!

Part of what drives the decision to invest or not in any given park in the chain is based on public response to the initial investments when cedar fair took over,obviously carowinds responded better than KD to the rides chosen for this market as opposed to that of KD hence one reason why the focus has shifted to pouring large amounts of money into carowinds while expansion at KD has unfortunately slowed down. Carowinds has installed 3 coasters and now is adding a waterpark expansion while KD has only installed two coasters,a waterpark expansion and a kiddieland expansion aside from both parks installing a windseeker ride.

Obviously the park that recieves more investment is going to draw more from it's market than the one that doesn't and it's not really helping that both parks have lost one of their coasters effective this season,fury however makes up for the loss of thunder road somewhat while the l ast coaster KD got is now 5,going on 6 years old so that makes the pain of losing a coaster even worse for those of us in KD's market. Cedar fair needs to take a more balanced approach to cap ex spending than what they're currently doing,otherwise they'll probably find themselves over extended on the number of properties they own versus the revenue they bring in, much like what happened to the six flags chain starting after the premeir parks merger in the late 90's.

A more balanced approach? They're adding fanily and thrill flats, dark rides, coasters of all sizes, expanding water parks, investing in their hotel properties, investing in food, investing in entertainment, investing in atmosphere...what the heck more do you want?

Kings Dominion will get a coaster at some point. I can't even believe people are upset that they're getting a thrill ride. The park already had a great coaster lineup, and the company spent money last year to spruce the park up. Jeez. Cedar Fair is doing a great job of getting parks where they need to be to move forward. Your last coaster was a giga. For crying out loud.

Yeah, plus Kings Dominion already has a superior coaster lineup to Carowinds IMO. Fury is the best ride at either park, but when I think of the coasters that are "must rides" for me when I go to the parks, there are three at Carowinds now (Fury, Intimidator, Afterburn) and five at Kings Dominion (Grizzly, I-305, Volcano, Flight of Fear, Dominator). Rebel Yell and Avalanche are a lot of fun too.
