It's your typical Saturday really other rides have longer than normal lines because fury and intimidator are closed.

EDIT/ I take that back it's slow for a Saturday but busier than a weekly operations it's like a Sunday today. Intimidator is up and running Fury is still down.

Seems like the new exit will be ready in about two weeks!

In last week's blog, Breaking Ground on Carolina Harbor , we discussed plans for a new exit that will give guests the option to exit the parking lot at the intersection of Pleasant Road and Carowinds Boulevard. If weather and favorable conditions continue, we hope to have the new exit open by September 25th - just in time for Christian Music Day and the second weekends for SCarowinds and The Great Pumpkin Fest .

At first, they thought that it would not be ready in time. It seems that the tables have turned in their favor and it will be ready! Since Scarowinds is their busiest time of the year, this will help to significantly increase the flow of traffic (or at least it should help *fingers crossed*).

Great weather and no lines at all. Everything was pretty much a walk-on including Fury(when i rode it at 6:45). Was very surprised with the lack of guests in the park. Only thing I didn't ride was Imidatior and Nighthawk. Even got my ride on Windseeker, Drop Zone(first ride in over 5 years). I'm really interested in what they have planned for Scarowinds... all the props/scenary are out.

Just a flashback...nothing to see here. Just from Coaster Stock 2010. The ride op was hilarious in the mic. He probobly thought all the cables on the ride were going to snap...Carowinds need more like him. Thanks Ty!!

What was Hurler like back in the 90's? I always hear people rave about it (maybe not Afterburn or Fury rave, but I always hear about how amazing the airtime was). Was it similar to how Thunder Run is today? Better? Worse? Would topper track/removal of trims fix it? Would it create a "top four" for Carowinds?

I don't expect that Hurler could ever make it into the "top four" unless it got a complete renovation (RMC or something similar), however I do think that it could be significantly improved without that. If the trim(s) were removed and it got a complete re-tracking, then I bet it would be a lot better. Ideally (but realistically), I would want a re-track, removal of trims, maybe new trains if that would help the bumpiness, and some sort of theme. "Hurler" seems like such an awful name to me. I wish that they would theme it to something 80's to go along with Jukebox diner. However, I don't think that any of this will happen anytime soon since the Thrill Zone just received a major update.

Remember that area of the park was created as "Wayne's World" by Paramount in reference to the Spin-off from the Saturday Night Live skit by Dana Carvey and Mike Myers. The name, "Hurler" came from the tag-lines associated with the skit and the movie... "You'll laugh. You'll cry. You'll hurl." Not that it was a great name to begin with but, there you go.

Cedar Fair had to rename it because Paramount owns the "Wayne's World" name and copyright. So, now we have "Thrill Zone". The Hurler name was purchased with the park(s) because its only worldly reference is to the 2 identical coasters that Paramount built at Kings Dominion and at Carowinds.

For me, it's always been bumpy. Back before the trims made it run at 2 mph, I actually broke a left rib after being slammed into the right-hander under the lift-hill. Hurt like hell for weeks. That was back in the 90s and I've probably ridden the ride a total of 3 times since then. Things like that may be why they added the trims because of the violence of the turns

Now, if they did an RMC on it and created immelmann turns and the like, I think it would be an awesome ride.

Way off topic here, but I just saw an amazing video on solar panel roads that would be an awesome replacement for the pacers in the park. Shoot it would be incredible for the parking lots as well. They even light up for special needs!

I've thought about that as well, but the reflective surfaces of those would reflect a lot of light and heat. Making the paths much hotter. It would be a great idea, but it would stay forever hot.
