Am I the only one that loves that they play the music from Banjo-Kazooie in the Scary Tales area? Friday night was my first visit ever and I have to say I absolutely enjoyed myself. Didn't really get scared, jumped a few times but still left at the end of the night with a smile on my face.

With temperatures in the 30s forecast this weekend, does anyone know if Fury and Intimadator will run?

The low is 39 on sunday... I doubt it will hit that temp before midnight. I forget the temps they shut down at, I think it varies. I doubt it will close though, or if it does, it will be very close to the park closing anyway. I went this past Friday night to Scarowinds and I wasnt impressed. Seems like there just wasnt as much entusiasm as years past. THere were no scaracters in the walkways, the actors in the mazes seemed tired/bored... and plus it was way to crowded. Furty was all the way out of the queue.... Went through 2 mazes and left. May try to go back before the park closes hopefully will be better..

We finally made it to Scarowinds on Sunday night. We've gotten really busy lately, and haven't made it to the park in quite a while. We did Scarowinds last year but we just rode rides and didn't do any mazes.

The amazing: The first actor when you just walk into the beginning of Slaughterhouse. That dude had creepy down to an art form. Awesome.

The Good: All the props, smoke, music, and the scarezones made it fun to walk around the park. I enjoyed that aspect last year too.

The not-so-good: The mazes. We did three: Slaughterhouse, Silver Screen, and Zombie high. I found them pretty disappointing. The scares just weren't there. Some of the props were pretty well done though. They weren't really mazes either, which I found odd, they were just a winding walk-through with employees pointing the way much of the time. It was just the same thing over and over (actor hiding around corner), with no creepiness, frights, and really bad pacing. Some of the actors were not very good, some were terrible (except the super-star noted above). Espeically the zombie acting was bad. Worst zombie acting ever. We did the mazes first thing when we got there, and I'm glad we didn't have to wait in long lines for them. After three of them, we just started riding rides. And Holy cow was the line long for Fury. Only got one Fury ride. I haven't seen lines that long for Fury since opening weekend. It was a Sunday night, but it was Columbus day on Monday, so that might have made it busier than usual for a Sunday night.

We hope to make it back a couple more times this year. I might be inclined to just go on Sundays during the day to hopefully get some shorter lines for the coasters. But maybe we'll do one more Scarowinds on another Sunday night, just for the atmosphere of the park at night. I really do enjoy the atmosphere of Scarowinds a lot, it does make the park more fun even if the mazes were not as good as I hoped they would be. I think they should just make the entire park into a non-stop scare zone. Move all the actors out of mazes and have them interacting with the guests everywhere, all the time. That'd make waiting in lines more entertaining.

A little off topic: I figured we would take the year off from Carowinds next year, but my wife seems to now be hinting that she wants to get passes again.

I finally made it to Scarowinds this year for the first time this past Friday night. We were able to do four of the mazes in the first hour before the crowds started picking up, so we left.

I must say that I think Carowinds has really stepped up this year and there was a noticeable improvement over the past few years. Silver Scream Studios was a welcomed change from before and I noticed many improvements. Slaughterhouse is good and definitely better than Fury/Viral. We noticed updates to Defex and Last Laff as well, although they were not as apparent if you don't try to study each room like I do. Some additional animitronics were a welcomed change.

Our overall experience was good and I think the park atmosphere is better than I have seen it in years. With some of the direction I see SCarowinds heading, I can't wait to see what they have in store for the next few years.

My only real critical comments are:

1) They were playing a TSO Christmas song in the fury plaza when we walked through there. :?:
2) The mazes would really go to the next level with more music/sound effects for each one to create a better atmosphere. I will pay closer attention this next weekend to see if I missed any of that.

I've been three times so far and this past Sunday was the most fun I have had, however, I also realize that this was the first time this year I went with someone that was actually afraid. That made ALL the difference. I think if I make it there again, I'm going to wait for a scared person to walk by and just follow them around. Is that creepy???

I will say that I'm getting REALLY tired of people jumping around corners at me. Too many times on both Friday and Sunday I was almost hit in the face by overzealous actors. If you can't see around the corner, probably best to not reach around and just slap the wall. And please dont yell BOO.

I'm hoping that my camera will work long enough so I can film some of this year's thematic elements, sound effects, scaracters, etc. Nothing special really. I'll be more focused on the experience rather than holding a camera this time

Ok....your homework is to create a short, under 5 minute, montage video of highlights and fun set to music with no video audio. There are some really cool, free, haunty music by Macleod on YouTube. :-) You are artistic and this will be an easy one for you. You are going to really like the decor and the fire pits at the entrance are really nice. Maybe I'll see you there.

What's funny is the next day the park was dead. My wife and I got a ride on Dodgems with no other riders. Even Nighthawk was walk on during the day. We done all the mazes except Cornstalkers(I ain't sure if it was open or not) in less than three hours. Hurler was one train operation, Reptar and Ricochet didn't open and I never seen anyone on Vortex.

There's nothing funny. It was pouring rain. That's why it was dead.

Greetings!

A friend and I will be attending our first Scareowinds this Friday. I've been to Halloween Horror Nights and Howl O Scream several times and am excited to check out another haunt.

I was wondering if someone has a good tour plan for hitting all the houses, coasters, and scarezones within the hours of the event. We will be showing up prior to gate time and are utilizing Fright Lane for the houses. My guess would be to head straight for Fury first.

Any help is much appreciated. Thanks!

I'm not too sure about the best way to do the mazes and scare zones, but for roller coasters, the general guideline is if you want to ride Nighthawk, then run there first, cause it gets a terrible line. If you don't want to ride Nighthawk, then I would suggest to go towards Fury next, but all of the other lines in the park should be fine. Afterburn, Hurler, Cobra, Cyclone, and Vortex have very small waits, while Intimidator might have a bit of a line.
