I can't complain about you being happy. :-) It's halloween and rollercoasters.....you have to be happy.

Some excellent music choices.

If you don't want to ride Nighthawk, then I would suggest to go towards Fury next, but all of the other lines in the park should be fine. Afterburn, Hurler, Cobra, Cyclone, and Vortex have very small waits, while Intimidator might have a bit of a line.

Thank you for the reply. Based on this info, we'll hit Nighthawk, Fury, and Intimindator first. All other coasters and houses will follow.

Does anyone have a link to a Scareowinds park map? If not, where are the houses and scarezone located?

I would recommend doing Slaughterhouse first. The line for that one was 30-40 minutes for us this past Friday night.

We have Fright Lane; won't have to worry about house lines. Are any of the houses worth hitting more than once? We are equally excited for coasters, so we'd like to make the most of the first two hours of the event before coaster lines get too long.

Funny to hear distress over 30-40 minute house waits. For Halloween Horror Nights, I've seen 200 minute waits. Utterly ridiculous.

I stopped by for about an hour or so last nite (Friday) and the park was packed. Fury immediately seemed to have a full queue. Intimidator had a decent line. The haunts all had lines. I hate, rode Hurler, and left. Nighthawk was the only thing that didn't seem to have a huge line.

Now that it's getting close to Halloween, it's probably going to be packed on Friday and Saturdays, for those of you that haven't been. I'm heading down with a friend on Sunday since he's not been to Scarowinds. I just hope Fury is open this time.

So here's what went down...

Got in the park before 7. Went straight to Nighthawk. Following this, we hit Intimidator, Fury, and Afterburn. We did all these by 8:30. After a break, we hit all the houses and skeleton key rooms sans Bloodyard since it was closed due to technical difficulties with the lights. Ended up leaving around 11:30.

As far as the haunts go, you guys have a fun event. Some sets are extremely well done; especially Slaughterhouse. The main problem seemed to be the scareactors. I walked passed tons of them in houses and scarezones who were just standing there doing nothing, or talking to one another. The ones who did try to act scary did well.

BTW, if you have Frightlane, the attendants let you go in the houses alone. This made Last Laff, Slaughterhouse, and Silver Screams a lot of fun. We still got stuck in a conga line for Zombie High, which would have been better if we went in solo. Defex and Cornstalkers were the only true duds of the evening.

It was there when I went the second weekend . . .

I made what is probably my last trip for the year this past Friday. It was kinda anticlimactic after just experience Howl-O-Scream, Horror Nights in orlando AND hollywood and Knotts Scary Farms but still pretty fun. It was crowded but manageable. The scaractors need places to hide and something other than banging on walls to get scares!

Finally, after a very jockeying job month, I made it to Scarowinds with my Daughter on Friday.

I was not disappointed in the least. All Scaracters were in full bloom, getting staged in their place, small groups being sent in with no overlap or running into others. Quite well done in my opinion. We did not ride anything as we went just for the haunts and the scares.

Even getting there late at 7:30 we still did all the houses and zones by 10:30. We parked at the South Gate and entered in that way. If you come off Carowinds Blvd. from Tryon definitely do the turn around by Cracker Barrel as Wormy suggests, it cut at least 10 minutes off the wait to enter. I was just really impressed at how efficiently they handled the flow of traffic.

I did not really have a favorite house, although we did Slaughter House twice, as they all brought something a little different. Instead of the normal jump out at you they were actually just being very creepy getting up close and personal and would follow you in their "zone". As a headbanger type I did enjoy Bloodyard quite a bit, so much I walked thru it about 5 times just to see the cast members and hear the music. All the shows were 100% improved and entertaining, the cast members stayed in character, the atmosphere was great and the scenery was well done. A vast improvement over years past. By the Way, that giant is huge.

Things that stood out: Necklaces to wear so the cast members take it easy on you as I saw many kids around the age of 6 trying to brave the night. Cast members being more creepy than just jumping at you and screaming. Music in the houses was not deafening. Zones were top notch with decor and ambiance.

What I didn't like: They seriously need to add coolers to the fog to keep it low lying. We bumped into to several people getting through it at times.

Oddly it's not overly packed tonight. There's wasn't even traffic down 77 nor carowinds blvd at 7pm .I'm shocked. There's way more traffic last weekend opposed to this Halloween weekend. The day side was pretty dead to virtually no lines anywhere except nighthawk. Planet snoopy was the busiest part of the whole park. Felt like a Sunday. Wonder how dead it will be tomorrow for the last day of the season.
