General Carowinds discussion

Food for thought.

Could Carowinds potentially receive another roller coaster within the next year or two? Grant, Fury just opened and it took five years. However, Gatekeeper opened in 2013...two years, Cedar Point is installing another record breaking coaster.

Also, seeing that Dollywood has open a new coaster every other year. We can't say it's impossible.

Perhaps Thunder Road was removed for a new coaster?

*I wasn't sure if this was a new topic or if it would be consider a wishlist item. Personally, I wouldn't think of this as a wish because it's it's a high possible.

Thunder Road No.....
Keep an eye on Cyclone in my opinion.....
I think the area behind Cyclone will be open for expansion in the near future.

I'd guess 2018 is the absolute earliest we could realistically receive a coaster, although I'd bet on 2019 myself. If they go through with converting Vortex, though, I think that would happen before the new coaster as a sort of lead-in (like Carolina Cobra was for Intimidator).

I expect a vortex conversion to be considered as a new coaster in the next year or two, and then a new coaster the year or two after that.

I wouldn't consider that being a new coaster. Yes, the experience would be different. But if that was the case...Then wouldn't that mean Cedar Point got a new coaster for the past 3 years straight?

^ Yes. I agree that it shouldn't be considered as a new coaster, but that's how they are going to advertise it if it happens.

Yes and that's how they advertised and announced Rogorou, as a new coaster.

More realistically, does carowinds NEED a new coaster in two years. Im gonna stick with Dollywood here since you used them. Right now, Dolly has like 4 roller coasters compared to how many at Carowinds? I feel Carowinds can go a few years riding on the #FuryFever.

They have 8 and the overall quality level is significantly higher than Carowinds IMO.

Great or interesting coasters at Dollywood: Lightning Rod (presumably), Thunderhead, Wild Eagle, Tennessee Tornado, Firechaser Express. You could even argue for Mystery Mine (I wouldn't) or Blazing Fury (I would).

Great or interesting coasters at Carowinds: Fury, Intimidator, Afterburn

I would say that Carowinds will greatly benefit from a large wooden coaster and a launch coaster. I don't know if they NEED them, but they are the missing spots of Carowinds.
About Dollywood - Yes, they don't have as many coasters as Carowinds, but they don't have many "holes" in their lineup. Next year, they'll have two amazing wooden coasters, two launch coasters, a large Arrow sit-down steel coaster, a large steel wing rider, a heavily themed sit-down, and an indoor "coaster". The only missing rides are an invert and flyer.

I wouldn't say a large wooden coaster but Carowinds needs a good wooden coaster. The park's best wooden coaster is 40 odd feet tall and painted purple; Hurler could be great if the trim brake is disabled and the track is kept up with fresh wood.

I think there are some hidden gems in the lineup that could help the park's collection if polished. Hurler could get the Ghostrider treatment and it could possibly be more fun than Thunder Road was. Vortex could be a decent floorless coaster. It would be mediocre compared to other floorless coasters but at least it'd be enjoyable. Then if you add a new GCI and a Premier/Mack launch coaster on top of that, the quality would be pretty close to Dollywood's.

I've had a gut feeling for a while now that the Cyclone's next on the chopping block. No real reason, just a hunch.

Also, IMHO, there's not much that can be done to the Hurler to make it a good coaster. I don't want to seem like a contrarian, but even with a smoother ride it'll still have what I think is a very uninspired layout.

^Me too, I think old Cyclone is wearing itself out. The loops seem to have a lot more wobbling than the used too.

GCI did an excellent job on Hurler's turn three. The ride was fun until the trim brake was reinstalled, the tirm brake kills most if not all of the airtime.
