I haven't been on one yet. But I'll be at Lightning Rod media day, so that will be my chance to ride my first RMC.

Oh . . . I must have missed them announce when media day is.

I personally cannot enjoy RMC coasters like the rest of you. I've been on Goliath and I'm 6'5. I hated the restraints because my toes were the only things that could touch the floor because of my long legs and it was extremely uncomfortable. So I hope the redesigned trains on Lightning Rod are better. Granted I am pretty unproportionate with about 3/4 of my body being legs.

I think that there are some descriptive words being used under the assumption that they are positive thing. 'Large' and 'launched' don't always mean good. Carowinds is sorely lacking a good wooden coaster and there are good ones out there that aren't necessarily considered large. There are also some large wooden coasters out there that are far from good.

The same is nearly true with launched coasters. While most of the launched coasters I have been on have been good, don't forget that Vekoma makes a launched coaster although who knows, it might be good.

Half of the coasters at Carowinds could go away with no great loss. While there are some holes that could be filled with variety, I'll take quality over quantity any day and I hope the next new coaster at Carowinds is at least good, if not great.

I agree with you Arby. I know of 4 coasters Carowinds can do away with as I believe they have out lived their novelty.
With my latest trip to B.G.T. I am NOT a huge fan of a launch. Sure, cheetah was fun, but not some great ride.
Now, we do need some good layout coasters to keep them interesting for years to come.
Personally I would much rather see an awesome snoopy expansion and a flat expansion before they plop in another coaster.

I believe Carowinds can go without:
1) Cyclone - I really think Cyclone is old and tired.
2) Vortex - Unconfortable, slow loading and too short.
3) Goldrusher - Height restriction is too high for what the coaster does, I still love riding Goldrusher but I really think it's target riders are younger children.

I on the hand think these rides still have purpose.
1) Ricochet - Fun family coaster and takes up very little space.
2) Flying Ace - I personally hate this ride but I think it is a starter for children until they move on to Afterburn.
3) Cobra - I know I am an oddball but Cobra is one of my favorites, right behind Thunder Road and Intimidator/Fury. Again Cobra takes a small space plus it goes backwards.

Didn't you swear off the park because they removed Thunder Road??

And now, even though you claim you're never going back, you're wanting them to remove Cylone and Golrusher (two coasters that, along with Woodstock Express, are the only remaining older "icons" left in the park) too?

While I honestly couldn't care less what happens to Vortex, but Cyclone and Goldrusher (again, along with Woodstock Express) are the only pieces of Carowinds' classic coaster history still standing now that Thunder Road is gone. I think the focus should be preservation with these three, because they're part of the park and this region's personality.

I can see why Thunder Road had to go and was removed, but I don't think that means it's time to just rip out everything and replace it with something new... once some things go, there isn't anything that can fill that particular void. That's not to say the park couldn't put something amazing in, say, Woodstock Express' footprint; but the question isn't "would the trade be worth it", it's "is this worth losing" IMO.

Do I want Goldrusher gone? Heck no, I enjoy Goldrusher and I agree with you however the comments I overhear most from riders involve the coaster being referred to as a kiddy coaster and boring. The ride doesn't do as much as other mine trains do.

Cyclone, I believe it is time for Cyclone to go. I believe that the new maintenance building and relocating the administration offices is going to open up the area around Cyclone for expansion possibly a new coaster. Cyclone in my opinion is the most logical coaster to remove next. Will I be sad if it goes? Yes and No, I will be sad to lose the history but the train design is awkward to get in and out of. Cyclone's layout is a classic but it is also dated.

Losing Woodstock Express is not a thought I want to think about, that thought is as bad as Thunder Road in my opinion.

I only swore off buying season passes.

Personally, I hope Carowinds keeps all its coasters for a while. There are some I do not enjoy but I know others do and judging by the backlash from TR's removal, I'd hate to see that happen again.

I'd love to see Carowinds bring something unique that every other park would die to have. What that could be is beyond me but I'll leave that to the powers that be to decide. A GCI woodie because at least the cars are open and tall people like myself can fit in them comfortably. But I'll be happy with whatever they do. And until then, I'll probably get a season pass to Dollywood this year as well to make up for what Carowinds is missing.

Speaking of hurler, I haven't been on hurler in years, but I don't remember it being anything overly great. It was fun, and I liked it, but it was never nearly as fun as TR to me....What was the reason they added the trim to hurler that everyone says essentially kills the airtime? Isn't that backasswards? They want to improve a coaster, not make it worse?

I also have been on a RMC, Wicked Cyclone. When it was Riverside Cyclone, it was horrid due to how rough it was. Though the ride was decent when parts of it were retracked that one year. Once I ridden the new RMC version, it was 10x better. It rides similarly to El Toro at Great Adventure, and is now one of my top 10 favorite coasters.

Now I dont see Carowinds, nor any of the Cedar Fair parks adding an RMC within the next few years, cause I think they are waiting til the RMC hype dies down a bit, as it seems every park wants one now. I do think converting Hurler into an RMC is a fantastic idea.

That and an official invite, lol. I hope you aren't assuming that you will get an invite due to being an ACE member. Media Days at Dollywood are notoriously hard to get into because of a "pre-approval" sort of thing due to a celebrity being there and all.
