Is there anywhere you can view Concept Art for Carowinds rides that made it and those that didn't?

Aside from the survey Concept Artwork more recently, I only remember seeing the Super Saturator Concept Work poster in the parks before the ride was built. It varied a little (most noteably - the elevator lift was dropped). I would love to see concept art for other projects if they can be found anywhere.

Interesting post and topic. I will post the original drawing for the Carolina Cyclone later today when I get home. I remember how excited I got when I first saw that in 1979. I also have a rendering of Vortex & Top Gun that came in the media press kit but I am sure many of you have seen those already.

OK, here are 2 concept drawings that were done before construction began.

<a href='http://members.aol.com/earlywinds/cyclone_drawing2.jpg' target='_blank'>Carolina Cyclone</a>
<a href='http://members.aol.com/earlywinds/vortex_drawing2.jpg' target='_blank'>Vortex</a> (note the monorail path)

I'm still looking for the Top Gun drawing. I found the press kit and the drawing was missing. It's around here somewhere. I'll add it to the list when I find it.

:D Awesome!

Thanks so much Swampfox.

I never rode Vortex when it went under the old Monorail. Looks like that actually added quite a bit of thrill to the Coaster.

Wow, look at the bunny hill before the corkscrews on the cyclone, or was that not supposed to be there.

Thanks for poting those nice pictures Swampfox. I always like to see concept art to see how it actually varies from how things turned out. (I love how they try to make things look all exciting to the general public!)

You can see how close the Monorail track came to Vortex in this 1992 photo:

I forgot all about the headchopper on Vortex. That was an exciting part of the ride by itself. lol

Man vortex would be a lot nicer if the left that part of the moneral in there.

Considering that Carowinds sold the monorail to a resort in Mexico ( I think that's right ) that option probably wasn't even possible.

But I agree it would have been nice.

Wasn't there a "headchopper" for Carolina Queen as well where it went under the monorail?

My memory is starting to fail me... lol

The Goldrusher had a couple areas that came really close to the monorail. You could easily reach up and touch it on the part that crossed over the first lift.

You can see low clearance in <a href='http://members.aol.com/earlywinds/goldrusher2tx.jpg' target='_blank'>this</a> photo.

Or replaced it witha walkway or a peice of bar of metal.
And just think how much of a headchopper standing up.
