Adventureland’s Newest Ride Coming to Life

ALTOONA, Iowa — Adventureland Park’s newest ride is starting to come to life.

The amusement park announced its new ride “The Monster” last July, a 2,500 foot-long roller coaster with a 101-degree first drop and 10 “airtime” moments. Opening in June. The $9-million ride is the first roller coaster Adventureland has added since “The Outlaw” in 1993. Scheduled to open in June.

If they plan on lighting the whole coaster up in such manner, I will have to make a trip just for the lighting and night rides. Lol

Have you all seen the comments around Delirium on the KD facebook page? Now I know it will be a great addition to the park but the comments are hilarious. I'm like if all dont want it Carowinds will happily take it, even though personally I prefer Zamperla's version.

2016 Addition for 9 Six Flags Parks...(As if their ride operations we're slow enough already....)

http://www.screamscape.com/html/six_flags_over_georgia.htm
Park News - Breaking News - (3/3/16) Six Flags has announced some crazy news that will impact all of their parks in 2016, the addition of a new VR Coaster experience being added to a coaster at several of their theme parks. To put this new program in action as quickly as possible each of the parks will roll out one of two possible themed VR worlds on the selected coasters.

A Superman VR experience will be added to Superman: Krypton Coaster at Six Flags Fiesta Texas, Superman: Ride of Steel at Six Flags America and Superman: The Ride at Six Flags New England. Unlike previous VR coasters experiences we’ve seen tested over the last couple years on smaller family sized coasters, you can imagine the added impact of visually taking the plunge off the top of a skyscraper with Superman while you are actually taking a 200 foot plunge down the coaster’s first drop yourself in the real world.
The second VR world experience is called “The New Revolution” and has been given a high-tech fighter jet theme as you fly over a city as an alien mothership descends and attacks. If this sounds a bit like the movie Independence Day, or the new sequel hitting the theaters this summer, I’m sure that was deliberate. You’ll be able to battle the alice invasion on The New Revolution at Six Flags Magic Mountain (launching March 26), on Shockwave at Six Flags over Texas and Dare Devil Dive at Six Flags over Georgia (launching March 12) as well as Ninja at Six Flags St. Louis, Goliath at La Ronde and Steamin’ Demon at The Great Escape soon afterwards.
To roll this new experience out to guests as quickly as possible Six Flags enlisted the aid of VR Coasters and will be using Samsung Gear VR headgear at the parks, which was co-designed with the aid of Oculus and actually uses a Samsung smartphone locked away inside the headset for the computing power and visuals. According to Six Flags the new VR experience will be offered to all riders FOR FREE, but you don’t have to wear it if you don’t want to, and there will be plenty of headsets to go around for the riders, including time to have them wiped down and cleaned between riders.

I hope they make this optional. If this were to ever come to Carowinds and be a mandatory thing, I think one of my blood vessels would burst. I don't know about you guys but I absolutely hate this idea with every bone in my body. It just seems like it completely takes away from the experience. It does not surprise me in the least that Six Flags is doing it, I just really hope Cedar Fair doesn't stoop that low. It's a ridiculous gimmick that turns roller coasters into something you can do for only a few tickets at a Chuck E Cheese location.

*Takes deep breath*

Okay, I'm good. I just really, REALLY dislike this whole "VR" thing on coasters.

EDIT: Okay, so after some research I found that you do have the option to not wear the headset. Great news but I still think this idea is terrible.

It sounds like something I'll definitely try and for me personally I think it'll be a cool thing to do like once, but I'm sure I'll prefer the traditional coaster experience. Since I ride them so often, I guess it'll be fun to try something new haha.

In general I kinda don't think this should be a thing though because for some of the GP, they will ONLY experience the ride this way and that kinds of breaks my heart.

Also, you have to be 13 or over and this would've really upset me at age 12 (which is the age I started becoming obsessed with roller coasters but still knew barely anything about them and probably would've thought that this was super cool)

Haha I hadn't thought about how they were going to enforce it. Would they go as far as giving them a special wristband? (Like they do for kids being within a certain height range) They'd know the age because tickets for 12 and under are cheaper so they could give you the wristband when you buy your ticket. (Not sure how that would theoretically work with season passholders but it's just my first idea on how to implement something like that)

Maybe that's too much effort, I could also see it being a "rule" that's never enforced. But I'm not sure how big of a deal the age thing is/why they have to do it? Could it have to do with insurance/liability or something?? Idk.

I think the VR experience is very cool and intriguing. With my recent issues with motion sickness I'm not sure that I could do it but I really like the direction this is headed. What I like even more is that it is optional so it's up to the individual rider.

It is great to see that regional parks are able to leverage technological advances to compete against the big players. Through a much smaller investment in VR, they may be able to provide a similar experience without the hundreds of millions of dollars in theming an attraction.

However, I am not convinced that VR has advanced to the point, yet, of this being effectively rolled out on a large scale. It will be interesting to see what comes of this. I am willing to bet that Cedar Fair is watching this closely.

Hmm... I don't really know what to think. From what I read on Screamscape it sounds like this will be more of a showcase and celebration of Chinese culture rather than an amusement park. Sounds cool but I'm not sure if this will do really well or really poorly to be honest.
