Just wanted to bring up a point I’ve noticed about Carowinds and Paramount Parks.
As I was reading the post regarding the petition to save the eagles (The Pulse Journal, Oct 28, 04) I noticed a trend- that this ride will be removed to make way for another.
No new concept here, but do you realize that Carowinds has had no net gain in rides since 1998- the expansion of Hanna-Barbara Land and renaming to Animation Station. (Note that I am excluding the water park attractions)
1999 Wild Bull removed for Top Gun
2000 Black Beard’s Revenge removed for Nick’s Flying Super Saturator
2001 Whirling Dervish (Swings) removed (though not for) Scooby’s Haunted Mansion
2002 Ricochet gained, Power Station & Wally Gators lost
2003 Reptar Gained, Scrapy’s Skytower lost
2004 Sternwheeler lost for Stealth.
… Another perspective:
15 years ago 1989: 30 rides
10 years ago 1994: 35 rides
5 years ago 1999: 33 rides
Currently: 33 rides
I realize that most of these attractions were replaced with much better attractions, no doubt about that, but it does raise an interesting point and trend that amusement parks really are not increasing the number of attractions, only the quality.
Thoughts on quality vs quantity?
