SANDUSKY, Ohio – Cedar Point is planning to expand its Soak City waterpark in 2017, according to an email sent to season passholders late Tuesday.
Details of the expansion officially will be announced by the park Thursday morning.
A Soak City addition has been the subject of speculation since last week, when the park sent out oversized flip-flops to members of the media, advising them to "find the other half of this story" on Thursday.
In the Tuesday email, the park invites passholders to visit Soak City on Thursday night "to celebrate what's in store for 2017," including "full details on exciting new additions coming May of 2017."
Soak City, which carries a separate admission fee from the main park, is overdue for an expansion. First opened in 1988, the park features more than a dozen slides, a wave pool and lazy river.
This year, Kings Island, Cedar Point's sister park near Cincinnati, expanded its Soak City park with the addition of Tropical Plunge, a 65-foot-high complex of six water slides.
Still unclear for 2017: What, if anything, the park has planned for Mean Streak, the massive wooden roller coaster that Cedar Point said it was closing in mid-September. Many coaster fans are hoping the park plans to keep the ride, but convert it to a steel-hybrid coaster.
No specifics of course yet, but tomorrow more will be revealed.
