Everything else goes here, including discussion of parks outside of Carowinds and any off-topic discussion

It's not just about filling a big wooden coaster gap. Carowinds lacks a good, mid-sized coaster for kids 48" and under (with the exception of maybe Carolina Cobra). Meanwhile, Dollywood has four (five if you want to count Wild Eagle), and SFOG has four (could be five, but Blue Hawk might be stretching it).

I do know Ferrari World wants to build a park in the U.S. and Orlando is one location they were considering. 200 acres seems small for them, though, since they like to go big. Who knows, but more competition is good for all of us.

more speculation on a possible buyer...

Six Flags definitely has no plans to build there or any parks domestically for the foreseeable future as they are focusing on it's international parks.

Edit: I see the in the article of the previous post it mentions this, but this expands on that.

Another carnival style park being over hyped? I think the key phase is "one of the longest", unless they have most of the footings in the ground and started putting steel.....

In case anyone is wondering I posted about the new park in Alabama but it was posted at the same time in the 2017 thread so I deleted mine and commented on it over there. That's what RollerBee was commenting about so you all don't think they are too crazy...lol

Everyone keeps posting that article saying six flags is denying involvement in the Orlando project. That's not what they said.

The person supplying the (at this point rumored) information said what basically amounts to some foreign investors wanting to build a park at Artegon and work with a large US theme park operator.

Six Flags official comment was that they are not looking to build in Orlando and that they continue to look at licensing deals.

I have no insider info but as I've stated in a few different places, I could see an overseas investor building this park and tapping SFI as partner to possibly run the park and license the IP SFI has.

So it could be Six Flags branded. Or not. But there was no actual denial of involvement, just a denial that they aren't building a new park.

While it certainly won't be the longest, they definitely have the footers poured.

I have a question but I don't want to start a new topic for it.

Are there any amusement parks in Italy that are open in January? I'll be there Jan 8-31, but I don't know where in Italy I'll be yet, so tell me about any Italian parks you know. Thanks!

As far as B&M hypers go, I think Mako is best in its class. Great first drop, exciting 2nd element (it’s scarier than it looks), loads of airtime, barely noticeable trims, inventive and interactive with the park after the MCBR, and it’s next to (gasp), WATER. In other words, sorry Intimidator. It’s that good.

And as Jarvis pointed out, maybe one of the best footers ever.

The only bigger parks I can find are only open the first week and last day is January 8th. Those are still open because they have holiday events.

This park is open on weekends but doesn't have many big rides (the water rides will likely be closed):

Ye' Olde' Tripe' Reporte'

This is really less a trip report and more just photos because we had limited time and mostly just watched shows and walked around the NC Renaissance Festival. I hate I've missed this over the last 6 years I've been here, so I'll be spending a day there next year.

The front gate of the Faire.

All of this, of course, stays here all year, as the Festival is only open for about 2 months. But it is ALWAYS packed (at least judging by the area around it) and it's lasted, I believe, around 25 years, so it must be making the money.

The Faire was much, much larger than I thought it would be. I was expecting a few buildings and shows, and I knew they had a couple of small rides. But in the end, it was really huge.

Sadly the castle maze was for kids. I really think they could/should have one for adults here, they have plenty of room to do it.

One of the rides. They had a few, and each cost a couple dollars each.

The first area was basically a field with an open midway and buildings. Then you get to a few points that are in the woods. Still with lots of buildings and stages.

Everywhere there were things to do. Shopping, food, shows, performers, rides, etc.

It was time traveler weekend, so there were loads of costumed characters of different types.

I love Steam Punk, and there was a lot of it here.

Jousting was really cool. I'd never seen this live before.

Our guy for our side was winning, and had won the previous joust earlier in the day, but we left after the first round to watch a comedy show.

My family had went to the Renaissance Festival one year when it was at the State Fair grounds. I was kind if surprised how fun it was.. Definitely made you feel like you took a trip back through time. I've thought about going back but always forget about it!
