I thought I would point out how the Carowinds woodies ranked in the 2004 poll:

96. Hurler (Much better than KD's Hurler! ) ---2003 ranking: 83

114. Thunder Road ---2003 ranking: 114

156. Scooby Doo ---2003 ranking: 153

I would also like to congratulate Dollywood, as Thunderhead ranked #5.

Thanks for pointing out the link to the poll results Duke. I was happy to see Thunderhead in the top 5. It's an outstanding piece of work and deserves it.

I'd love to see Carowinds get a top 10 woodie but as noted in the poll, Six Flags nor Paramount had anything listed in the top 25!!

And the Hurricane has been downgraded. Dropped from 88-127. Couldn't happen to a nicer coaster. Please give that coaster some TLC!

I've always loved the Grizzly, and The Beast always seemed to be a major woodie. I guess they are just too aged to place higher now a days.

Well, the Beast is nothing more than one long brake run, but the last time I rode PKD's Grizzly (2002), it was still a kick-ass ride. Let's face it, there are some great and not so great woodies out there, regardless of age. I love the wildness of Thunderhead but I crave the airtime of the Phoenix.

I also feel fortunate to have a great little woodie called Scooby's Ghoster Coaster at Carowinds. I just hate that they had to reprofile the last drop into the brakes. Absolutely unnecessary and a waste of money.

I guess airtime is about the only thing Thunderhead lacks. There are some nice little pops here and there, but not really strong ones. (I think the chaotic nature of the ride more than makes up for that though...it doesn't give you time to figure out which direction you're going! )

Speaking of the Beast growing older, I heard that it's ridership has really been falling over the last few years. I think that is why Paramount was considering adding an on board soundsystem to the trains recently, to help draw more guests back on it.

Um...your kinda wrong, the Comet at the Great Escape was #18 and that park is owned by six flags. There may be more but thats all I saw with just a glance.

I think that paramount dosn't have a foothold in the woodie dept. with any top rides, and I think they should focus on steel for the next couple of years because they aren't going to build their first woodie since SOB and have it be a top 10 ride. Well, maybe they could go to CCI...no...is that the one thats bankrupt *confused*. You should get the point after this long, wordy paragraph.

SOB deserves its ranking. That's got to be one of the worst coasters ever. It has SO much potential but it just never reaches it. Its never got above 131 since its inception. Maybe it'll join its "cousin" the PGA Grizzly at the bottom!

CCI is still around in various forms. Denise Dinn went to S&S and took one of the designers wth her. The rest of CCI formed The Gravity Group.

Yep, I totally overlooked that. And the Comet was my #1 for many years.
SF inherited a classic coaster and now they are "butchering" it. They are taking out all the classic Herb Schmeck forces that made that ride what it is (was).
Sadly, it will more than likely drop below 25 in the poll next year.
