That's the under-construction pad for Electro Spin. Reference the pad for Shockwave at Canada's Wonderland -- same shape, and when the finished surface is put over those 4 columns on the pad, the same slope. And that hole in front of Cobra is the where the center of Do-Si-Do is being installed. And that circular area of dirt next to the Electro Spin pad is where Zephyr is going. I hate to be Captain Obvious about it, but -- :)

^cackylack....construction projects have always intrigued me whether it's construction for rides or the start of a new skyscraper so I have a few questions if you are in the know. Keep in mind I have never ridden a Top Scan (even at the state fair) so here are my questions....
1) What is the reason behind so much base work/groundwork for three simple flat rides other than the safety factor. Seems like overkill

2) You say that there is another concrete layer to be placed on top of the four columns we currently see on the webcam for Electro-Spin, if this is the case, does this mean there is a gap between the layers and if so, what other material is placed in between the layers if any?
and finally..

3) What is the reason behind the slope? I'm confused by why it can't be a simple flat concrete base if i's only purpose is for loading/unloading riders.

Thanks

I'm no expert, but you can look around the internet and on Youtube and find videos and photos of these things. Top Scans sort of lean down at an angle, and so do the arms of Troikas (plus they have a center base that is sunken below the pad). Probably has to do with loading. The other two rides are just simple flat pads, I think.

Anything and everything anybody would ever want to know about constructing a Top Scan, including what's under its skirt

I'm guessing that's why they have to build the platform with space underneath it for the support structure. I don't think there's a specific park model of this ride -- just one that's portable, and it can be made to appear permanent.

As far as the Troika goes, it does look a little more complicated when it gets to construction since a good bit of it is below deck. I hope ours is as interesting looking as Cedar Point's, paint-wise.

FamousAmos wrote:Scrambler is much simpler, in terms of construction. The main drive axle sits about a foot below the flat concrete level with the gears being in, basically, a concrete box beneath the center of the ride.

Our Scrambler doesn't have concrete covering the drive axle, I think it is metal or wood(diamond plate?)but I know it ain't concrete.

Yes, Reithoffer has a group that travels with them but they also take locals from the streets. It is first come, first serve; they pay minimum wage. I went one year.
