I actually didn't get around to voting in the steel poll this year (whoops), but Top Gun continued to improve in the eyes of enthusiasts. It was ranked 20th, right behind Raging Bull and right in front of Xcelerator. Top Gun was ranked 12th in 1999 when it opened, 33rd in 2001 and 2002, then jumped to 21st in 2003, and of course 20th this year. It was higher than any other coaster in the Paramount chain; next was Volcano at #32. And, it was fourth among all B&M inverteds. Not too shabby! The biggest surprise for me was Superman: Ride of Steel at Six Flags America, which moved up to #3 (although I do agree with that, as it is my #2).

EDIT: Forgot to mention, BORG Assimilator was #143, Super Saturoator #166, Vortex #172, Goldrusher #230, and Cyclone #231.

Woo 5 years and still kicking! B)

I'd like to see some of those head to head matchups.. particularly vs. Nemesis, Montu, Fire Dragon (the 3 ahead of it) as well as Volcano, Alpengiest, and Raptor.

Whoa just noticed something.. 11 of the top 20 coasters, as well as the top 6 overall, were not on the first ballot in 1999, as they had not been built yet.

Thats awsome to here. The ride is also just starting to break in and it's going to get better. I'll bet it moves up a few spots next year.

That's cool, but i don't get how FSS got ahead of CC and Vortex though.

I voted for FSS over CC and way over Vortex.. should I be ashamed? I would have voted Taxi Jam over all three but it wasn't eligible. <_<

--Jay (who is not entirely kidding  )

Well Jay, you should be ashamed. Especially in light of your devotion... admiration... dare I say it... "affection" for Vortex! :P Does your issue with Vortex come down to "comfort" and the "bicycle seats"???

Well of course TG moved up, it was running extremely fast this year.

Now I'll just have to compare it to SB when I go to Knotts next year...

I'm glad that Top Gun moved up in the ratings. It might bring more publicity to the park (at least with the coaster ethusists!)

Yes it was! I thought it was some of the best rides on that thing. Espacilly at nightime.
