Also SeaWorld's coaster collection does not compare to ours. Really the only park that is a strong competitor for the best coasters in the South is Dollywood, given that they really don't have a bad coaster.

I was wondering that too . . .

I love when people say a park NEEDS a coaster, while some parks has gone years without a new one lol.

I wonder, if Carowinds does not get a new coaster in 2018, 2019, or even 2020, what effect that would have on park attendance, revenue, profit, etc.?

I would think that if the park kept the current attraction list and did everything related to the guest experience well there would be only a small year-over-year decrease in attendance, if any. But the addition of a headline-generating coaster turns that small year-over-year decrease into a sizeable year-over-year increase. Then it is just a matter of justifying the investment cost to yield the return in revenue and, more significantly, profit.

If the dumpage of millions upon millions of dollars does come to a halt after this year (which I doubt), then I think you would just see steady numbers for the remainder of the decade. As for the early 20s, (so weird that we can say that again now), the park would really need a new coaster to stay on top in the south.

I'll be shocked if the park's next coaster isn't added by 2020, or even 2019 for that matter. I could see something in WWF's spot next year but I don't want to get too crazy.

Since the new park map is out, I thought I'd get back into my three-year-long tradition of making poorly edited photos. Except this time, I've had some experience with actual Photoshop.

With that being said, this was poorly edited on Pixlr:

I've been out of the loop for a while, but I know Whitewater Falls is gone and I've seen rumors that Kookabura Bay/Sand Dune Lagoon is on the way out. And with Thunder Road being gone, this opens up a big chunk of space. So either next year, 2019, or 2020, I'm expecting to see some sort of new coaster (hopefully a GCI) hugging the outskirts of the park again. Something like Lightning Racer would be ideal for obvious reasons, but as I am typing this, I'm realizing that I'm turning this into a wishlist post.

I'd say that's realistic enough to keep it from being a wishlist type of post. Maybe not something along the lines of Lightning Racer, but definitely a GCI.

the land is around 5 acres a lot of space for a compact coaster but the 3 possible coasters I see are.
1.some kind of B&M dive or wing
2.GCI
3.RMC
the RMC is most likely at this point in time but wouldn't mind the dive coaster

What wouldn't surprise you? A new RMC would surprise me, a RMC Hurler wouldn't but with RMC doing the KD Hurler; that would finally give Carowinds and KD only one roller coaster that is similar.

Compared to having three similar wooden coasters.

Why do we need a coaster that is similar? We aren't Six Flags. I too would rather have a ground up RMC versus converting Hurler. Our Hurler is just fine how it is while KD's was struggling. I rode it in it's last season and holy moly guacamole extra cheese with ravioli did it suck.

Thunder Road was similar to Rebel Yell, Woodstock Express is nearly identical to the KD version as was the two Hurlers. I assume Taft and Paramount had their logic at the time but having been both I would rather our Hurler stay the same and KD get the RMC Hurler.

I think if Carowinds gets a wooden coaster it should be something that isn't a near copy of a wooden coaster in the chain.

First was the Racer, then Rebel Yell, then Thunder Road. All similar and each built off the other's design. But that wasn't Cedar Fair's doing. That was also back when travel wasn't as prevalent as it is today. (Interesting that the newest of the 3 is gone.)

Anyway, I'm all for a brand new one-of-a-kind ride.

Yes, count me as team "ground up RMC"

Is it possible (thinking outside the box) that if CF is indeed doing RMC conversions on MS & KD Hurler, that they are waiting to see what the outcome is and THEN decide if Carowinds gets either a conversion or ground up RMC?
