General Carowinds discussion

Yes this is another one of those off-season topics written out of boredom but what the hey. A similar topic about this was in another forum a while back and I found it to be interesting.

In this thread, you categorize roller coaster companies with various vehicle makes and models in terms of smoothness, reliability, price, or whatever you wish based on your own personal experiences with cars vs. coasters.

I would classify B&M's with Cadillacs in that they both give ultra smooth rides and have very little downtime due to maintenance. I know B&M's are often referred to as Beemers, but I wouldn't know about that since I've never really ridden or driven one.

I say that Arrows are like Hondas. Everybody has one or has had one at one point. They also are reliable for the most part. The trains run quietly on the track just like a Honda engine runs quiet. To me Arrows have some of the cooler looking trains...and I think Hondas are some of the nicer looking cars on the roads. And just like people in generall say, they run forever.

To me, Vekomas are like the Dodges of roller coasters. My first car was a little white Dodge. It had good horsepower but it wasn't the smoothest car. The car constantly gave me problems until I finally decided to ditch it for a better one. Talk about unreliable. This scenario is similar to what happened to Stealth/Borg. It gave PGA so many problems that they ditched it in a sense. Then there's Deja Vu in Georgia that has been sitting idle for how long now?

In closing I would like to say that Intamins/Schwartzkopfs are like Volkswagons. I think they all look wierd although they may give good rides.

Opinions? Flames? Comments?

I look at B&M coasters as being the jaguars of the business. Not too many parks have them. They are also well crafted. They never really loose its value. And they cost a heck of alot of money!

CCI's were kinda like the Daewoos of the business. When they came out they were very cheap, you started seeing more and more but they eventually did themselves in!

Gerstlauer is like the kia of the business. Relatively small, affordable, and has a good bit to offer.

GCI are like the porsche of the biz. They are sleek in design, always eye candy and seem to have a taste of the past w/ some modern flavor.

Intamin are the chryslers of coasters. They are comming up with innovative designs and they have been around for a while but that have up their game in a since B) and now everyone seems to want one!

I look at Mack as the VW's. They are simple in design yet very sturdy. They have also been around for a while and havent had any major problems. And basically all of their coasters seem to be similar in design.

S&S/Arrow are like fords to me. Everyone in america seems to have one or had one. They tried to come out w/ some new designs but their reputation surfaces. They basically started the whole craze!

Kinda off topic, but I thought <a href='http://www.rcdb.com/installationresult.htm?coastername=&parkname=&type=&status=&design=&category=&contact=623&continent=&column=1%2C10%2C6%2C7%2C8%2C3%2C26%2C4%2C5&order=1%2C2%2C8%2C7%2C6&search=Search' target='_blank'>This</a> was pretty cool! ;) . Looks like im already in the business!

B & M - BMW. Find craftsmanship, quiet ride, good quality

Intamin - Volkswagen - Basically as good as BMW's but 10k cheaper. lol

Vekoma - Yugo, ok I won't go that far... Anything by Chrysler. They tend to look good, but fall apart rather quickly.

Arrow - Cadillac. They had their day but honestly Cadillacs have been left in the dust by BMW and Mercedes.

GCI - Honda. Smooth, reliable ride.

Philadelphia Toboggan Coasters - Model T. Revolutionized the industry.

Miler - Kia...it's just so cute!

Togo - Yugo! They looked good at first, but they began to rust...

I'll just start with these...

B&M=Honda...because hondas are well made, reliable, and are always a good buy
Intamin=Toyota...because toyotas are well made but not quite as reliable and are more innovative than Honda

Please don't compare B&M with a domestic because the reliability figures of the two don't quite match.

Oh, one more thing...

Arrow=Oldesmobile...they don't make either anymore!!!

Always eye candy?? HA, they are the ugliest cars on the planet IMO.

Pimp My Ride? What is the world coming to? Must be a sign of the Apocalypse.

In fact, Porsches aren't ugly. I'd love to have one like in "Risky Business."

Just a sign of "We, the TV excutives, dont wanna pay top notch actors big bucks and produce award winning series so we just put a crap load of reality shows on and influence the young tangable minds of todays youth into thinking thats all to life is pimpin rides and being the bachelor or perhaps having low self esteem and thinking that new boobs and lypo will make you feel better about youself"

It's actually a pretty good show, it's amazing what they do to the cars (yet sometimes dumb[putting a flat screen tv under the car?? what the (insert word here) is up with that??])

Ok, here are my comparisons

B&M: Lexus

Because both are big, nice, and fast.

Intamin: Bufori

Because both are cool, fast, and almost all of them are unique (seriously, if you have the money with Bufori's you can have the frame/seats custom made just for you)

Vekoma: Old Chevorlet's

Because both are kind of cool, but tend to be pretty bumpy/rough

S&S: Ferrari

Because they both are fast (well, 2 of the 3 S&S's are fast), and have great acceleration.

That's pretty much all I can compare considering I know nothing about all of the other cars. ;)

Porches are not ugly. I don't know how anyone could say that, but then again I think those boxy Scions are ugly as crap and everyone is buying them.

Porche was THE car in the 80's. I wanted one so bad, until I drove one. The tightest clutch I've ever driven! I'll stick to me Beetle.
