General Carowinds discussion

KIJester wrote:To anyone who attended last night.....did Rock n Roller have any kind of music blasting like one would find at an actual county fair?

I honestly barely heard the music. They should've named it Wild Bull. That's what I felt like I was riding.

Rollerbee wrote:I rode it this morning. The County Fair I went to last had similar music to Rock N Roller. Of the three I think Do-Si-Do is my favorite.

Is it me or does one of the arm go higher than the other two?

So I went to the park yesterday and today, the music on Rock n Roller was playing loud today but it kept breaking down but I still got a ride on it, you are right about one of the arms not going all the way up on do si do a employee working there also noticed that, to me I think that zephyr isn't really that fun of a ride because most wave swingers I've been on are taller and faster, and there are still lots of lights under fury, including a big LED electrospin sign.

Welp, I think this was a sad open.

Why is the same person running metal detectors and containers doing bag checks? I heard one security guy tell the metal detector guy to slow those lines down last night. If he is doing his job why slow him down other than to throttle customers. Every attempt to re-enter today was met with lines at these metal detectors, while most were not even open.

How do you have a preview night or opening day advertising locally on radio “4 new rides” when one is not ready and it has been in their possession for about a year? Only to periodically “test” one or show it in operation via webcams. Carnies can do it weekly with wino labor.

Can I say LINES? The lines everywhere appear to be an attempt to slow progress or throttle customers. Panda never had a line that long at the old little hut. How is the new location an improvement? All the restaurants seem to be operating at slower capacity only keeping customers in lines, and I guess as long as a patron is in line waiting they cannot be using resources like the rides.

Feels like a different owner has stepped in but I know that is not the case, but something has happened. Lines are a form of control and communication is important to keep your audience informed.

I guess if they wanted a county fair: they got it because I walked away unsatisfied minus some money.

Yes arm #2 does not reach it max height on Do Si Do. I head to make a note so I wouldn't get on it lol. Hopefully some adjustments will be made during the week to fix that. I do like that the cars seem to sway with no effort.

The wave swinger is programmed weirdly to move. I'm use to this type ride raising halfway up while spinning until it reaches set speed the raising the rest of the way to its peak height the starting the wave motion. Zephyr raises spins slowly with the wave motion in action before it reaches max height and set speed.

Yes Rock N Roller does not have a sign as of yet.

Indeed this year was a rocky start. I'm sure things will be on Cedar Fair standards soon.

Really short cycle on both Zephyr and Rock n Roller. And Rock n Roller doesn't go in reverse! The one arm on Do Si Do is hardly rising up at all right now. Zephyr seems to be a bit smaller than other wave swingers I've seen.

New area looks good but Zephyr and Rock n Roller are a bit weak compared to their actual fair counterparts.

People. Calm. Down.

Just because County Fair wasn't ready doesn't mean it's time to throw in the towel with Carowinds and moan over how the park will forever go downhill from here. Last I checked, the Cedar Fair logo is proudly displayed on employee name tags and the Carowinds team is still just as dedicated to pleasing their guests as they've always been.

I'll admit that I was let down by Electro Spin not being ready and by the metal detector fiasco, but I'm still extremely satisfied. Is it weird that County Fair isn't finished? Yes. Am I going to throw a temper tantrum because it's not? No. Just because some LEDs are missing and one ride isn't open yet doesn't mean the park has stopped caring. None of us here on the forum built this area so none of us know what issues the crew may have run into. I for one cannot expressed how pleased I am with how the area turned out and can't wait to return next week.

May I remind us all that this isn't the first time the park had a project unfinished. The 2014 season began with what felt like dozens of unfinished projects. But you know what, they all opened and were amazing additions to the park.

County Fair will get it's bugs worked out and will be incredible once it's done. Until then, have a xanax and take some deep breaths.

What are you talking about Gabed? Everyone is just stating their observations they saw at the park as you did so you can calm down. We all are fine. I'm sure more members will follow suit and express their observations.

Obviously it's just not us if you head to Facebook or any social media the GP are expressing their opinions and observations as well.

I'm lovin' the pics guys, haven't made it out to the park just yet but I will definitely be doing so in the coming weeks!

Anyway, some thoughts I had based on the what I've seen so far:

It doesn't look like Rock 'N' Roller has a sign. I could be wrong, but if that's the case, might there be a possibility that we'll see that big logo from the concept art show up on the front of the structure after all?

Also, I don't think it's too far-fetched to consider that maybe Electro-Spin will still see that cool paint job and possible even some fair-style panel lighting too--especially since it'll have an extra week of prep work before it makes its official debut. Regardless, I can't wait to ride that sucker till I turn greener than Fury!

As for Do-Si-Do, it looks like a blast. I love a good Troika! I'm stoked that such a classic ride experience can finally be had for all at Carowinds. That being said, I'm still holding out hope it gets an update lights package like some of the others across the chain seem to have received in recent years. While lights certainly don't make or break the experience, I have to agree with some of you guys in saying it really adds a lot to the already fun experience.

Lastly, I'm just want to say I'm grateful we've got 4 more amazing rides and there's no doubt in my mind that Electro-Spin isn't "down for the count" like others have suggested. That assumption is beyond ridiculous.

We still have to remember that the park will be closed during the week (except for their spring break) until the end of May. So they will continue working on Monday like they did the year before last with the final touches to the main gate.

We got to ride do-si-do and zephyr yesterday. The kids loved them both. They have got to do something about that line at Panda Express. Hire more people. All they have to do is scoop food into containers. It shouldn't take that long. I want able to edit there at all yesterday and with the hoagie gone at harmony hall my favorite meal is out. They need to be training the workers at burrito cafe better. They were telling people the salad isn't included in the dining plan when it's clearly marked as a dining plan option on the menu.

All in all, we had fun but I'll be thankful for smaller lines on Friday.

Forgive me if someone already discussed this, but I thought the pavers in county fair reminded me of the hard packed clay surface we see in unpaved high traffic areas at County fairs. Nice touch. I was satisfied with the appearance of County Fair at night, and I know it will only get better.
