Found this on Screamscape I Hope This Is Not True

Paramount Parks - (1/19/05) In an article posted in Variety this week, Viacom head honcho Sumner Redstone mentioned that he may be shopping around Paramount Parks and their Simon & Schuster divisions in addition to other small assets.

Interesting rumor... Time Warner did it, and so could Viacom.

The reason I doubt it though is because lately it seems as if the parent company has been putting a lot into the parks. Look at the IJ:ST and the Tomb Raider rides. I don't think Viacom would be pumping so much money into the parks if they were going to get rid of them.

But then again, with big corporations anything is possible.

Who would buy the parks if they were sold? Cedar Fair might be interested in a few (I doubt the entire chain), but Six Flags is in no financial shape to start buying parks again. Busch doesn't show that they plan to buy anymore parks either.

Pretty cool "what if" thread.

As a member of Variety the article came with the news of all the big corps shedding the "small fries" of their business so they can grow the core of their operations.

Personally speaking I think Paramount has done some great things for the chain and have definantly pumped in the money. I also liked the fact of doing surveys and the participation they have with us.

If it is sold hopefully the new owners will keep up and grow on what they started.

Just don't let Cedar Fair or Six Flags even think about it.

Maybe we can all talk to Dolly or Hard Rock?

That would be so cool is Dollywoods owners (I can't think of there name) were to buy Carowinds from Paramount. I know that most of the reason why DW is such a great place (ie. staff, people, scenery, etc..) is because that's how Dolly wants it. If they could get Dolly to put so input on Carowinds, and theme it better, make staff nicer, and clean the park better, etc..., than I think that we would have a great park. One area that I can think that needs to be rethemed is Water Works. Have you seen Splash Country? SC is so much better than WW. It;s themed, and acutally has some shade!!! Just some food for thought for all of yall!

I Doubt Dolly or Herschend Family Entertainment would be interested in the Paramount Parks, simply because they are too ride oriented. I think they might have shown interest in the Carowinds from 15 years ago, but I don't think they really want the kind of park Carowinds is today.

If Paramount sells the parks, I wonder if they'll make the new owners rename and retheme all the movie rides. Wonder if they would be willing to work out some sort of licensing agreement?

Well I still say Uinversal should scoop up the parks. Wont have to do much themeing changes (they have rights to HB and nick characters) and foreseer can get his popeye theme rapids!

Hey Coasterbruh, are you thinking what I am thinking?
Paramount Preservation Club,lol.

Sorry, I just couldn't help but beat everyone else to it. If Carowinds is sold someone would buy it. Six Flags Carowinds?

Like I said above, I don't think Six Flags can afford any new parks right now...

So.. this means carowinds can belong to universal?

Not "can", "could". And that is only if they were to buy it. I doubt the rumors are true because of what Foreseer said. I don't care who owns Carowinds as long as it is open and they have BORG, Thunder Road, Top Gun, Flying Eagles, Scrambler, and most of the other rides.

I'm not sure if Universal will buy any more parks either...didn't General Electric sell off Port Aventura and cancel the plans for the new Universal Studios in Euroupe?

I know, I was just saying that it doesn't matter who owns the park as long as...(see my last post.)

I here by declare I will say anything more as I do not want to get on anyone's bad side.
