General Carowinds discussion

So are they checking bags at the other walkway to the circle? The point of the new gate might be to get people in faster, and that does work. I imagine it is also to cut costs and expenses.

The bag check tables move. Tonight they were at the entrance. Also everyone was scanned with a wand. The wand was not a metal detector, I don't know what they were scanning for.

Wand Was not a metal detector? Was it just a stick with Fury colors?

The wand did not detect metal that I would expect such a device to find. They were scanning everyone and it had a negative impact on the throughput of the entrance.

The walk through metal detectors seem quicker than the wands, they might have a negative effect on appearance but I already got my pictures on Opening Weekend.

OMG I don't see why they need them at all. Carowinds have never really had serious issues besides it's own employees. I feel we don't need them our crime rate is not like SFOG. CP get 9 million more guest and have no type of bag checks or detectors. I use the other walk way more anyway, I always get a park at the end of the new parking lot most of the time so I walk straight in.

I agree 100%. IMHO it absolutely blows my mind that Carowinds went to great lengths to make the entry process seamless and then pull this stunt creating even more backups???? Unbelievable

I guarantee they started doing it because of all the complaints on FB that they got rid of the metal detectors. GP has no clue how little they actually did, and the fact that Carowinds was one of 2(?) parks that used them.

The old walk through metal detectors could be set to sense objects as small as coins or they could be set so that not even steel toe boots are detected.

I doubt they would pay extra staff just because of fb comments, half of the comments on their Facebook are people whining about something.

I spent the last couple of days at SFOG, and set off the metal detectors every.single.time I walked through. No one ever stopped me, questioned me, or even looked at me funny. I don't see how having metal detectors that are ignored is any more safe than not having them at all.

I'm sure people at Carowinds will eventually get used to our security measures. It seems lots of people complain about any change.

I get that people are focused on trying to get in once you get there, but seriously.. all this complaining about something that is for safety? I mean, the odds are pretty low that someone would bring something like a gun into the park, but I'd rather wait a few extra minutes on entry then be there on THE day that some DA has a conflict with someone. Just saying.

I don't mind the metal detectors at the gate. I was just down in Universal Orlando and on Thursday they had metal detectors before every roller coaster making sure you brought nothing on the roller coaster, specifically phones. It was a major inconvinence, at least we don't have that system.
