General Carowinds discussion

'Pit Viper' sounds cooler but 'Copperhead Strike' sounds more southern. Either way, a Mack launch has been more of a pipe dream for me so if that part of the rumor is true then I'll agree not to get too caught up on the name ;). Also, count me firmly among those who are hoping this isn't a spinning coaster.

They could name this thing whatever, I personally don’t give a sh**! A name is not what’s going to make this coaster great, or should I say unique! No abbreviations..shaking my damn head

I really couldn't care less what they call it. I just want a good ride and I'm confident that's what we're going to get in 2019! I've been drooling over the idea of a Mack launched megacoaster for years... and Copperhead Strike isn't a bad name for one either . lol

"Y'all, we need to ditch this lame *** name that we spent thousands of dollars trademarking. I read a comment off of a forum and I think it's time for change."

Someone correct me if I'm wrong but Afterburn was going to be Flight Deck until everyone bitched and moaned. I think they already had the sign for Flight Deck.

Originally they were going to name ours Flight Deck as well. Dani Swords, who was in marketing at the park, told us at the construction tour for Intimidator that the park fought with corporate against that name. Dick Kinzel didn’t want Parks making decisions, really, but the park eventually won out. Probably because Bart Kinzel was park president at the time. Do the math.

Thank Heaven, where did Dani go after Carowinds? Is Larissa still in Marketing?

As I think about it, Pit Viper would be a great name for this coaster, if it is launched from a tunnel. My first thought was that the name 'Viper was too common, but as I considered Pit Viper more, the names is actually somewhat 'bad a$$. They would not even have to change the theming at all, only the name. The potential here is endless. The coaster would leave the station and immediately drop into the pit. From there you would be launched out, while the ride weaves in and out of trenches the rest of the way.

That's right! Now I remember hearing this story (probably from you).

Not sure where Dani is but Larissa is now a morning show host on the local news in Charlotte.

I don't like the Pit Viper name for a Carowinds coaster. Since the park has been working hard on revamping the whole park, and making more of the areas and key rides Carolina-centric, it doesn't seem to fit. With copperheads prevalent all over the Carolinas, it makes a lot more sense. Now if we were a Six Flags park, it could be something random like that...

It does depend on what the new area of the park will be named and where the entrance of this coaster is located. Flying Cobras fits well with the County Fair theme.

Just wanted to get my 2 cents in although everybody is entitled to their opinion.

Where did all this "Pit Viper" stuff even come from? Was that trademarked too?

Copperhead Strike could very well just be the "as of now" name. Centurion was trademarked filed in October 2013, Fury in January 2014, and finally Fury 325 in June of 2014 just a couple months prior to the official announcement. So who knows,

Even if it is Copperhead Strike, most people will probably shorten it up. While it's Fury 325, most everyone calls it Fury. Who knows, at this point it's a few months until we definitively know.
