I hope they have it up and running by Scarowinds October dates...

Sheesh. What in the world is wrong with Top Gun? This will put it down for nearly a month - and that's if it's up next weekend.

I have hopes that it'll be up sometime before the end of the year, since the park is only announcing it's closure a week at a time. They must have some belief that they'll get it up and running, or they'd just announce it's closed for the year. Still, only 4 more weekends after this one.

^ C'mon this is cedar fair...what they are gonna do is 2 weeks after the park close they are just gonna announce that "top gun will no longer be at carowinds". Give some cock and bull story about how the struggling support would be more profitable as a trash can corale and that "dont worry the station will still remain because it seems to be more profitable than the whole coaster". The name is gonna be "top gun's station", ya know to remind you of what was...

Then they are gonna go into how the station would be a "world known destination" and blah blah blah.

It will be down this weekend as well.

And this company wants me to spend MORE money to go the park next season - or to attend Scarowinds this season?

As of right now, 2 coasters and one side of another one are SBNO. The side of T-Road that IS running is still rough, and Hurler isn't much better. The rides that are running are often only running one train. Carowinds is now freakin' Six Flags over Fort Mill / Charlotte.

This is TOP GUN Cedar Fair, you know, the most popular ride in the park, and the 4th-best steel coaster in your entire chain according to Mitch's poll. You should be busting your butts to get this ride fixed ASAP. Maybe you are, but one gets the sneaky suspicion that you're not paying for any extra hours during the week to get this problem fixed. It's not like it hasn't been 85 and SUNNY the entire time, which should allow any work, including pouring new concrete footers if necessary, to be completed within a month's time. The only thing I can think that would take this long IF they're doing all the work on it they can is waiting for a new piece of track or support to be fabricated.

Given the screwjob that you gave the people at Geauga Lake by closing their park and only announcing it AFTER the season, one might even worry that this is something worse - like a removal / relocation that they're keeping quiet. I highly doubt that's the case, but after the GL fiasco, we can't really put anything past them, can we?

Given the lackluster reviews of Scarowinds' haunted attractions, I can safely say I won't spend a cent to go until Top Gun is back up and running. If it isn't running by the end of the season, that'll make it that much easier for me to wait until next year to buy a pass, which may of course lead to me not buying one at all. Not sure how I'll live without that CF jacket, though.....

Eh I'm kind of giving them the benefit of the doubt on this one. I would have to imagine they are working as fast as they can since it is basically the park's signature ride. That said, I probably won't go either if the coaster is down. It's just an unfortunate situation for everybody.

If it doesn't come up by the end of the season, I'll probably go the last weekend just to use my pass one last time.

I think though if the ride was being removed, they wouldn't be putting in a new footer, which is very apparant on the right side of the batwing.

Surely they'd have more sense than that. Oh wait...

I think the sum of everything this season just has me more negative than I would normally be on this.

Poor operations. Lots of rides needing paint, Nothing new added. Lots of downtime on Thunder Road forwards, Thunder Road backwards down for the season, then Top Gun down for over a month. No announcement on anything new for next year, and the likelihood of Saturator being removed. Loss of benefits with an increase of prices, etc. etc.

I guess this particular issue with TG just bothers me the most, although this may be one of the few things on my list that really isn't CF's fault. But dammit, TG traditionally gives me it's best rides at Scarowinds, and one of the things I look forward to all year is one of those "110%" rides in the back-right corner on a crisp October night on one of my favorite coasters. Again, this may be something totally out of their hands, but with all the other stuff I just can't help but wonder a bit.

^ Ditto...That 2008 announcement better be amazing! Would it kill CF to slap some new coats of paint on some of these rides? I really hope they get things together over the off season. My main reason for going to Scarowinds is to be able to go to the park late at night. I could care less about the "haunted" attractions, which is why I hate that this isn't included for season passholders. I am not optimistic about Top Gun being operational by the end of this month...again, that 2008 announcement better be amazing.

I think Top Gun is getting painted. Or at least the other week it looked like they had painted some of the chipped supports.

Good to hear that they're painting it - if they just cover up some of the really big bare spots that would help. I think it needs a full paintjob before long, though, since the "patches" are usually pretty noticeable as being a different shade.

When in tip-top shape, Top Gun is one of the most striking steel coasters out there - that blue and silver just really works. While a big reason I hate having the back gate closed most of the time is that it makes things somewhat more inconvenient, I also miss walking in with the great views of Top Gun.

I'd imagine even if they've got supports back up it won't be up this weekend - they'll have to do lots of testing, and may even need a state re-inspection before they can re-open the ride. That does sound good for the possibility of it opening sometime before the end of the season, though.

:D What? You wouldn't like the Godzilla paint job it was supposed to have?

Top Gun will be closed for Oct. 6 and 7! We are getting down to the line for the last weekends of operation here and I want one more ride on Top Gun, if not, then I will have to wait until I someday return?

Wow. It's Deja Vu. That's like exactly what I posted on October 1st! ;)
