Carowinds in not affected by a height restriction like other parks. They can build pretty much as high as they want. Look at the skytower which is 310ft. Since they could build that without any trouble, I doubt they would have problems building a coaster that high (like they would do it anyway! I would guess the long awaited hyper is going to be 250 ft. or less). Don't worry about carowinds not getting a hyper because of local height restrictions.

I heard somewhere that they have a height restriction of 1000 feet or something. If that is true, then we won't have to worry about it until 2040 when cedar point builds their brand new 1020ft. verticle drop coaster. ;)

I have never been a fan of the Hurler (aka the teeth rattler)...I rode it last saturday and swore that my car had square wheels.....I am all for some roughness in a woodie, but it was like riding in the last car on the Mean Streak at CP.

Never! Hurler is a wonderful roller coaster and the roughness/out of control feeling adds to it.

Besides, the ride ride itself is not bad. It's just the track. The trains beat it up after a few years without a total re-tracking.

I've been on Mean Streak, SOB, and Hurricane Cat 5 at Myrtle Beach - and Hurler has never been nearly as rough as any of those for me. And, at least Hurler has the airtime hills and some speed. So they don't need to tear that one down.

Really, they don't need to tear down anything to put in new rides - they have space, especially if they go over existing rides. I mean, how much usable room would you gain by removing Vortex or Frenzoid or White Water Falls, etc.?

I'd like to see a hyper and a launch coaster added to the park - it'd save me money on travelling! I'm not a big fan of the twister coasters, so their current woodie lineup is pretty good - although I won't complain if we get a Georgia Cyclone or PKD Grizzly clone.

Still, I think sometimes people don't realize what we DO have at Carowinds. Does anyone realize that there are only THREE parks in North America that have more coasters? Cedar Point, Paramount's Canada's Wonderland, and Six Flags Magic Mountain. PKD, PKI, SFGrAm, SFGrAdv and SFoT are tied with Carowinds with 12. Unless I missed one in looking around on RCDB, Carowinds has more coasters than ALL the other parks in N. America. I've seen people say Carowinds has "only" 12 coasters, and I don't think they realize how good that really is. It's FAR better than the 1991 count of 4.

We have a racing woodie and a junior woodie, neither terribly common outside of the Paramount chain. There are less than 20 flyers and less than 20 standups in the world, and Carowinds has both types. We have one of only TWO Setpoint water coasters. We have a B&M inverted, widely regarded as a world-class steel coaster and probably the best steel coaster in the Paramount chain. There are only about 25 B&M inverts in the world, and half of those are Batman clones - and we have one of the custom versions, one of only 2 with a batwing element. We have a free waterpark that's got some good slides. We have great operations for the most part, pretty good food, nice landscaping and shade, etc.

What I'm getting at is that Carowinds is a great park, that I've only come to fully appreciate when I've been elsewhere the last several years. Other parks have some better rides, or better theming, or better atmosphere - but Carowinds does pretty good in all areas, not just a few. BGW,for example, is wonderful, and probably my favorite park to visit due to the atmosphere and theming, plus some good rides. They have great diversity considering they do only have 4 coasters, but I'd get REAL tired of the 4 coasters and lack of wood if that were the park I hit 25 times a year.

I'm not saying I wouldn't like a hyper - far from it, I feel the coaster selection is lacking a tall coaster and one with a long ride time among other things - but I certainly enjoy what we DO have quite a bit.

^ That's another reason I think a lot of people here don't think Carowinds is very good. A lot of people, especially some of the younger members, haven't really been to many other places. Once you visit a lot of other parks you really start to understand just how good Carowinds is. I think it's too easy for a lot of people to see places like Six Flags Magic Mountain on TV and say things like "Wow that's the greatest park ever Carowinds sucks in comparison to that."

I never thought about the airspace above Carowinds, since it is near the airport, but, I don't see why that would be a problem. Even though the Hurler is rough, it's still pretty fun.

It's not real close to the airport. The airport is a lot closer to I-85 than I-77.

Man i think that they need a delirium or some kind of swinging/spinning flat ride in the park. I think they should put it where that thing is (dont know what its called its never been used?) Its where the swings used to be. They need to get rid of it (whatever it is) and get sumthin good there thats actually going to be used and attract guests. Also today when i was there i looked at how big the parking lot area is beside thunder road. Are they ever going to use that? Ive been going to carowinds since like the hurler was first being built and i havent seen that parking lot being used. They need to rip that up and expand the park and get sumthing big out there!

A Delerim would be nice, especially since I've never riden it. I wish we had a dark coaster ride, that would be really cool!

I would like them to take notice at what our friends 4 hours away at Dollywood have done this year. :)

I, too, would love it if Carowinds would put in a taller coaster.

As for a concern over space, how about (now this may sound crazy) putting a roller coaster over the parking lot?!?!? I mean, if there was a concern over things falling on cars then they could simply attach nets to the footers for the coaster, which the footers could just be placed in certain parking spaces. I think it would be really cool to drive into the parking lot and have a huge coaster flying over your head!!!!! What do you guys think?
