General Carowinds discussion

Never ceases to amaze me that people think a power outage would cause a coaster to stop on course.

Here's a question though. The brake runs engage on a power outage, correct? So, if Timmy had a power outage, the train would stop on the mid-course brake run. I think for safety's sake, that's the way it would have to be. As to Afterburn, no reason a power outage would have caused an issue on course.

Some transformers in the waterpark went out. All rides immediately went into safety mode for a power outage and all brakes were activated. It was rather interesting to say the least. The park was dead silent for a few minutes. At least we know that all of our safety features work

For all coasters the default state of the brakes is on. It actually takes power to open them. This ensures that they are fail safe even without power.

^Which leads to an interesting thought. Abanonded amusement parks normally have coaster trains left outside of places were there brakes are. I suspect once all the air is out of the air brakes system this allows the brakes to release and the trains to roll to the nearest valley.

Hello, I have not been to Carowinds since I was in the 8th grade and I am now a Junior in college. I am very excited. I am going next Tuesday. Do you think it will be crowded? It's also supposed to be 99 degrees, do you think it will be bearable? I bought the souvenir cup and it says that it can be filled with Coca Cola products, can you also fill it up with water? Last question, where do you put your things when you get on rides? I have a fanny pack but I am sure it may be too bulky for some of the rides.

Thank you so much for your help.

Tuesday's typically aren't a very crowded day, but next week is the first full week since school is out, so it could be a bit more crowded than usual. As for the heat...99 degrees at Carowinds is pretty miserable for me. There's not a ton of shade, so it will just feel HOT. Be sure to drink plenty of water (you can fill your souvenir cup with water or coke products), and try to spend some time in the shady areas. I'd suggest Harmony Hall for lunch, where you can have a break from the heat in the AC.
You have to get a locker at Fury for any loose items (Don't take a phone on Fury, unless you have cargo pockets that zip or button...I know of at least 5 people that have lost phones from their pocket!), but all the other rides have bins you can use.

^^ sammiegirl888 Mondays and Tuesdays are not crowded at all and being that it maybe near 100 degrees most of the guests will be in the waterpark. With temps that high, well anything above 75 degrees is scorching to me, you will want to stay extremely hydrated so if you're peeing frequently that's a good thing and drink more right after lol. Like Tawny said, try to stay in shaded areas which mainly is the planet snoopy section and eat at harmony hall it's typically nice and crisp in there and you can put water and pop in you cup.

So Amos what footage will we see soon? I seen you speed walking last night with your GoPro in operation. lol

I was with a friend just filming some video, haha. It will be uploaded probably tomorrow, but not released until next week.
A lot of my family and friends asked me to film whenever I could.

Ha, is there another power company in Charlotte? Up here Duke Energy is known for having lots of outages, I have a local power company that only has a power outage when a tornado hits the area, some fool takes out a power pole. In the past ten years, snow/ice storms have only knocked out power once.

Any guesses why it took so long to evacuate windseeker? When I used to work there i know the skytower had generators to be able to lower people in an outage. I would think a more modern ride like windseeker would have the same or better... I don't understand why the news said it took 2-3 hours to manually lower them.

I think the power surge had fried something in the controls. It wasn't operating the day after or even today either if I remember correctly.

Did you even read your confidentiality agreement before you signed the paper? If the park wants that information out there, I'm sure they would have put it out there.

Maybe I'm way off base here but I know how much you love this job. Just be careful, man.
