General Carowinds discussion

As predicted, the teasers have now begun. Some indicate a hybrid woodie may be coming from GCI or RMC. And we know Dinos Alive will be going away, and there is speculation of a Hurler conversion like KD. While those may be a possibility, it looks like a Mack launched coaster has been unofficially confirmed by several sources, including on site crates with Mack signage. But there is also a reference to Mystic Timbers. Could the launch coaster blast out of a barn? Or will there be a barn at the end like the shed at KI? Remains to be seen, as the teasers reference several popular themes and Cedar Fair coasters.

But I am leaning towards the Mack launch for next year. But for 2020 will there be a RMC Hurler conversion or a grounds up hybrid woodie replacing Dinos Alive, either GCI or RMC?

There’s like a zero percent chance we’ll see a ground up coaster for 2020. If anything coaster related it’ll probably be our turn for the standup conversion...sigh. I think we may see a barn type station or something, there are a few “we build barns” signs across the wall, but these teasers I’m sure are for 2019 and 2019 only. I wouldn’t just lean toward a Mack, IT WILL BE A MACK.

Some fun references to Mystic Timbers or Steel Vengeance doesn’t equate to GCI/RMC for Carowinds, not to me anyway

Especially if this coaster is in the $20-$25 million range. At the most I could see Vortex getting converted, but Hurler is still a popular attraction and the Dinos going extinct =/= new coaster immediately after.

2019 alone could see an investment level in upwards of $60 million with the coaster, hotel, and dorms. That’s gonna take a few years to recoup.

Cedar Fair groups things by core investments and then hotel/resorts, The core investment cap expenditures for 2019 was stated to be around 135M for the chain and then around another 40M for hotels/resorts(Wonderland and Carowinds). So ,total cap exp of about 175M is what they ball parked. The hotel expenses are going to split over 2 yrs in cap expenditures. So, splitting things over 2 FY the Carowinds investment won't be 60M for 2019. Last FY capital expenditures from the annual report were 188M, which they stated was higher than planned originally b/c they moves some stuff up into Q4 that was planned for Q1 of the next FY.

I wonder how long it takes for CF to recoup the money spent for a coaster like Fury or this Mack? Is Fury already paid for at this point? I still hope for the coaster to be white with the White Lightnin' name. The park doesn't have a white coaster. They have 2 brown ones. I won't be devastated if it's brown, but I'm hoping for WHITE.

I can’t inagine the coaster being too terribly expensive. Anyone whose seen the construction area knows it’s not massive. This isn’t to knock on the coaster for presumably being smaller, but rather to say it shouldn’t cost anywhere near as much as Fury did. Or is there something I’m missing?
#101252
I don’t think it’s gonna cost as much either but the more I look at this and how early they started this project and then the teasers so far, I have a gut feeling that this is gonna be the best themed ride/area that we have so far.....that’s the one thing we’ve never had a lot of is great theming. I hope this one will open the door for a lot more down the road. Think about it IMO Disney doesn’t have the greatest coasters but what sets them apart is the theming

The ride will still cost a good chunck of change. Assuming the ride is approximately 3000 feet of track, my guess is anywhere in the 18-22M ballpark. Less than a B&M but still more than GCI.

Fury is one of the most expensive coasters to be built in recent years. For comparison though Time Traveler still cost 26 M.
#101255
Sheesh I didn’t realize Time Traveler was that much. Did most of that come from the fact that it’s a terrain coaster and the fact that it was a first-of-it’s-kind?

Thanks for getting this so accurately lined up for us to see. LOTS of leftover space for possible future water rides to the whole left side, gliders or flats up top and to the right, and the whole arrangement looks like it's BEGGING for a connecting path from dodgems behind scooby doo haunted house (it'll always be that to me) to the game area at upper right area of coaster.

Gives lots of space for carowinds future giant frisbee!

I don’t think a new coaster in 2020 is completely ruled out, There’s been parks to get a a new coaster after a new coaster. And with all the investments that’s going into Carowinds, It wouldn’t surprise me.

As with every coaster, a few here will be disappointed when they see we are only getting one coaster. I seriously don’t understand how people don’t think we are getting a Mack when there are literally Mack crates and footers in the parking lot.

-98% chance of a ground up in 2020, honestly I’ll be shocked if a coaster happens in 2021.
