General Carowinds discussion

Half of TR going away? That's interesting, but it is kind of like 2 coasters, so if they took one side off, you essentially STILL have TR (in a sense).

People keep saying RMC, but I thought for whatever reason, CF refuses to use them? Is this changing or something?

^^It's not that they refuse to use them. RMC is still a relatively small company who can only do so many projects at a time. While there is no exclusive contract with Six Flags, there are most certainly coasters already contracted to be done already and they just can't take on any more.

Nuupe.

Cedar Fair did take out Powder Keg. What makes Thunder Road any safer? Still, something good came out of that:

Not saying that this is necessarily accurate (we all know how the news likes to :::ahem::: "enhance" things at will), but this is what the Charlotte NBC news said about it, this morning:

"Carowinds plans to build a water park where it currently sits..."

Take that for whatever it's worth.

Ok. I'll finally throw some thoughts into this mix. First, age of wood isn't really the issue (MAINTENANCE of that much wood might be though.) Remember that the Swamp Fox was the ONLY ride at Family Kingdom to survive Hurricane Hugo. I talked with a security guard a week after that storm and he said the ride was 100% intact. So, woodies are very resilient...it was built in 1966 and still going strong.

Anyway, regardless. Practically every post on here tends to the sentimental value of the ride... and I am very sentimental too. But, think about this.. the vast majority of us sentimental people are getting older and will eventually be non-coaster riders (or at the very least, non-woodie riders because of the roughness). TR has been a walk-on at best these last few seasons. (at least before this announcement). CF wants something that people will line up to ride. They are looking to the future. What do the teens and the new families want to ride? This is their game plan.

I think what comes next will be awesome. Maybe they'll do a "Colossus" to it. Maybe they'll tear down half of it and RMC the other half. (TR has to be certified as two coasters anyway so why not tear one down? Carowinds would not lose in the coaster count race that way either.) I like that idea especially if they add a water element. Maybe it could splash through the middle of the water park drenching the 100s of people that are in line for a slide or something. That could be cool.

I'm not going to criticize CF for something I don't know about yet. Next year, maybe I change my mind. Yes, I love TR but I may love what's next better.

I get it...its one of the only few rides you can fit. But you don't think you're being a little extra dramatic?

First you suggest we all boycott Carowinds, now this? I think you're blowing this out of proportion. People were mad about the Riverboat and Smurf Island, but people get over it. Or maybe you're just stuck in the "Bargaining" or "Anger" stage of grief.

I mean…at least wait to see what the 2016 attraction(s)/expansion is before you pass judgment. It’s not always a good idea to operate from your gut (no pun intended). We ALL will miss Thunder Road dearly if it isn’t saved. But I think most of us are waiting to see what will become of the area before we banish the park to hell and vow to never set foot in Carowinds ever again. I will admit, After Intimidator It took a while for me to return to the park because I wasn’t really feeling the additions. But you know what; I had that choice and didn’t feel like I had to vocalize my distain for the attractions or lack thereof. I’d rather not have looked like an entitled snob who felt that the park had to cater to me and my wants and needs. Did I question what the hell the park was doing…yep, to myself.

So it would be nice if you would chill out with your rants because honestly its not adding anything to the discussion… just saying…
