I wonder where they are putting it? It would be nice if they torn out the old pool.

Dont count on it...I think I read somewhere near pipeline peak.

Now dont get me wrong if the park announced atleast ONE adult slide with this "expansion" I would be cool for one visit. Everyone isnt a family and I have no kids and after meeting rollernut I dont want any so I dont feel like I fit in at this family park. Now what happen with boombay at GA is fine because it was a new waterpark and it needed the expansions but GEESH wouldnt you figured that a wave pool would have been what was needed a few years back when they got the public tub!

Im trying to look at the bright side of this and realize that I can pull my eurotrunks out of retirement and take them on one more journey down at boombay  !

You've got to be kidding me...good lord.

Can anyone tell me, the last "new" ride that Carowinds got?

This is getting ridiculous. Especially with Goliath at SFOG, Griffon at BGE, HRP opening and Dollywood adding new attractions year after year. Carowinds is surrounded by parks that actually get new rides and all we get is a crap ride re-installed and a new pool.

I hope the "future" Mr. Scott spoke about is 2009. Otherwise it may be another 10 years before me and my family visit the park again.

I myself am a member of the darkside on this one. I for one really think that this is the beginning of the end for Carowinds. I think that we may not know this for sure during the 08 season by the 09 season you will all find out the sad truth. It is really sad that Carowinds keeps getting the shaft year after year not just with cedar fair but under paramount as well (though not as much). HAMMER8 makes an excellent point in that every surrounding park has been making much larger capital investments and with the opening of Hard Rock Park next year and the fact that Herschend just acquired Wild Adventures in Valdosta (GREAT MOVE IMHO) Carowinds investments will be clearly dwarfed. I hear many make the argument that Hard Rock Park will not be a big impact because Carowinds is a more "regional park." Okay so let me give you that Carowinds is a regional park and if your okay with that outlook then look up north. Six Flags tried to make Geauga Lake a park with national appeal (potential was there but IMHO not enough time allowed) but then when Cedar Fair takes over they stress it's importance as a "regional park" and with Cedar Point down the road the best (at least short term) business decision was to make it only a waterpark. That being said Carowinds has seen a very similar investment durings its brief reign under cedar fair as GL's reign under CF. With Hard Rock Park taking a "national appeal" and likely more outreaching approach it will really put Carowinds into the "regional park" segment. I think Cedar Fair could easily counteract this by being a direct competitor with HRP and be very aggressive in the investments at Carowinds and then they could draw business from HRP. That draw just won't happen if HRP just see's an outdated park hours away. Let's face it Carowinds is a pretty outdated park in many ways.

On another note just imagine for a second I'm right and Carowinds ends up being either non-existent or just a waterpark. This could be viewed as a great (though only short term but pays off debt) business decision. Really most of the rides need nothing more than a trip to the scrap yard. The Vortex it's alright and if Carowinds left i'm sure CF would be able to find a home for it. The Hurler well i'm pretty sure a match could take care of that and same to Thunder Run. The Carolina Cyclone could get a nice penny at the scrap yard. A few flats could be relocated then they could send Borg up to Kings Dominion to make the diversity of their coasters even more diverse then they could send Top Gun to Kings Island which would pretty much complete their coaster diversity. Okay I know I just stepped on a lot of toes but this is simply my opinion on the future.

Borg is not a bad ride at all. We are not the only park to get used rides. Dorney Park, Michigans Adventure, Great America, and Kings Dominion are all getting used rides. Cedar Point, their flagship, is getting a new kids area probably with the used kiddie coaster from GL. By the way, Kings Island, WOF, and Valleyfair are all getting nothing next year. Does that mean they are going the GL route too?

What we really needed more than anything since 2000 were some more thrilling flat rides. I honestly think 2009 will be worth the wait. I wouldn't be suprised if they tore down the Hurler. That ride takes up a lot of space and is just too rough. It hasn't had a decent line for a long time.

Anyways, does anyone know if they will re-name Top Gun and Borg next season? Top Gun = Firehawk? Since the transition phase seems to be in high gear, I'm assuming we will see all the signs updated to the new logo next year.

Top Gun = Thunderhawk.

I bet it will happen.

I really hope not though. But you know Dick, he doesn't like theming anything.

Dominator or Talon would be another two I'm thinking they'd use.

I figured Firehawk because like at Kings Island, you can still use the pilot theme.

Ok, first off, although I'm firmly a member of the "dark side" on this one (Darth Ken ?) and have been highly critical of Cedar Fair this year, Carowinds has NO similarities to Geauga Lake. There is no Sea World next to Carowinds that they've been relying on for 30 years to draw people in. Carowinds consistently draws about 300,000 - 500,000 more people than GL did even when Shamu was next door or when the parks were combined under SF, and about 3 times as many as GL drew under CF when they dumped the animals. GL was doomed the instant Shamu left - it just took a while to die. There simply aren't any parallels here to Carowinds and HRP or other nearby parks. No Shamu or Cedar Point to worry about here.

CP, KI, Valleyfair, and WoF got coasters this year. CW, KD, Dorney, Knotts' and MiA are getting coasters next year - mostly GL hand-me-downs. This leaves CGA and Carowinds as the only ones not getting a coaster so far - and CGA is slated for a GCI woodie in 2009.

This could mean that 2009 is Carowinds turn for something "big". I can't see any of the parks getting coasters in 2007-2008 getting anything in 2009, with the possible exception of Cedar Point or KI of course. This should leave a decent slice of the capital expenditure pie for Carowinds. I'm starting to think that not getting any of the used stuff from GL or a token flat ride is a good sign. They know the 2009 plan, and must know that it would make putting in a Boomerang this year pointless.

Now, when I say big, I don't necessarily mean "hyper under the bridge" - I mean "adult-sized thrill-ride coaster". Or maybe a major flats package. My money is on a coaster, and I can't say that I'm disappointed that CF is turning to GCI and B&M for their new rides.

I really think the reason things look as bad as they do now is that CF interrupted some things that Paramount was going to do - namely moving Flight of Fear to Carowinds. Had that happened, nobody would care that they did work on the waterpark the year before and the year after. Most assumed after kiddie area and waterpark makeovers in 2005 and 2006, that 2007 or 2008 would be a big year. I think the sale to CF just threw a wrench into the works and delayed things a bit. It may work out for the best, though. Perhaps if we had gotten FoF, the 2009 "big project" wouldn't have happened until much later - or with the way Paramount was, not at all.

Was the FOF from KD going to come here? And do you know where they planned on putting it? I wonder if they would of kept it indoors or not.

Yeah, well it was going to be KDs or KIs, but I'm pretty sure it was KDs.

No idea where they were putting it, but I think they had contracts for a new building for it.

Hmm...another wave pool.. great...6 feet awesome...umm, yeah, ours used to go up to 8 feet...but wait, didnt cedar fair modify it last year and made it barely go to 6 feet...and now the waves dont work as well since they reshaped the bottom of the pool. Cedar fair in my opinion is not doing a very good job with carowinds. sure, they are new here and all, but come on, your making carowinds crap. Removing FSS, which is fun and great to cool off, adding a uneeded wave pool, readding a boat that seems to go slower now....oh and not to mention how much downtime a lot of the rides had this year.

So I too have joined the dark side. Cedar Fair is ruining our park. I miss paramount, at least they added rides, even if they are relocated, it still is "new" to us.

It might even be easier than that . . .
